Assemblyman Joseph Malone who has served Lakewood for nearly 20 years, has decided not to run for re-election, Malone announced today. Malone is a former Bordentown City mayor who served in the Assembly since 1993. Recently, Malone was sent back to the 7th Legislative District after the once-in-a-decade redistricting process. The same process which put Senators Singer and Kean in the same 30th District.
In January, Malone stepped down from the budget committee.
“The Legislature can’t spare any of the bipartisanship, integrity and common sense that Joe Malone brings to Trenton every day”, Assembly Republican Budget Officer Declan O’Scanlon, R-Monmouth and Mercer said today following Malone’s announcement. “His advice and counsel not only makes me a better Budget Officer, but a better legislator than I would be otherwise. He’s a great leader, resource and mentor for me and many other elected officials”.
He added, “The people of New Jersey would be well-served if their representatives emulated Joe Malone’s spirit and dedication”. “I wish Joe well and I’m sure he’ll find a new way to use his extraordinary talent to make New Jersey a better place.”
Senator Singer, who worked with Malone for many years says calls his decision a ‘tremendous dissapointment’.
“He’s helped the people in the 30th District a tremendous amount”, says Senator Singer.
Singer says he considers it both a “State and personal loss, and he will be dearly missed”.
Malone remained on the ballot through an unopposed primary, but has today decided to drop out of the Assembly. It’s now up to the Burlington County Republican committee members to pick Malone’s replacement. TLS.
Joe Malone will be missed in the Assembly. He is a good and decent man that worked tirelessly for the 30th Legislative District.
