Following Murder, Ridge Area Residents Meet To Discuss Security And Safety

lcsw ridge meeting picPHOTOS: Following Friday’s early morning murder in which a man was found shot in the heart of the Frum Ridge neighborhood – first reported on TLS – residents from the area gathered last night to address safety and security issues in hopes of preventing future crimes from taking place in their neighborhood.

Some of the ideas discussed at the meeting – which was addressed by the director and two captains of LCSW – included the idea of setting up surveillance as well as improving lighting in the area – an issue previously addressed by the area residents.

Township officials were invited to the meeting, but were unavailable to attend.

So what now? Any great ideas?

i never understood why developments that have limited entrances don`t put up cameras to monitor all cars coming into the area. Obviously it isn`t enough to catch criminals that walk in from the forests, etc. but it can help alot if there`s a home invasion or a kidnapping c`v.

people can still jump fences in the back so it wouldnt realy help to put up one camera at the entrance you would have to put up a bunch and that comes at a large price tag

you`re 100% right. It most definitely won`t solve petty burglaries and the likes. But I believe 90% percent of serious crimes i.e. Shootings, home invasions, kidnappings, carjackings, etc. are commited with cars. A camera with a photo of the driver and license plates would be an enrormous help in such investigations.

If the lpd & the politicions don’t step up to the plate to give us better security then we should set up a security team that does patrols around lakewood!!!!!!!!! We need more security in this town!!!!!!!!!!!what r we waiting for?????!!!!!!

I dont get it

You go to a drug infested, crime ridden area, setup a isolated complex and expect the streets to suddenly be safe and crime free? yes, police need to step up patrol., but if an entire neighborhood is known for its crime rate and drug use, you cant expect it to disappear overnight.

Police can’t patrol when the township doesn’t hire cops to replace everyone who retired . I believe there are fewer cops today then 3 years ago

the problem isnt petty burgluries , which a good alarm system can stop.

in lakewood there are gang , real gang , bloods and crips and their is a truf war going on. these shooting are part of the turf war and their are executions..
it is a very bad situation , but you have to realize that they are not targeting yidden and thier victims are targeted . the worst thing you can do is try to stop them. then you will become the target . thats how they work.

LETS MAKE SURE THE LPD SEND SOMEONE OUT TO CLEAN THE PLACE UP…. RIGHT AWAY!!!

Why the big deal? Why don’t they just get more people to join the LCSW to better cover their area?

Okay,so we heard from the lcsw director and two “captains”. Did any lcsw sergeants make it to this meeting?
To Mr. Be strong: Stop blaming someone else always! There are problems in this town but they aren’t all that easy to fix. What kind of “better security” do you want/expect? Do you expect armed escorts when you leave your home? There’s only that much the police can do!

the root of all problems is the welcoming housing for illegals and criminals. without addressing this nothing will help. Lakewood will continue attracting those elements.

Not one of you knows what the problem is, you want to put LCSW out there against guys with guns, thats a good idea just ask those 4 unfortunate members that got shot in NY trying to do the job of the police. The answer is put more police on the streets, you cannot cover the entire town of Lakewood with just 9 officers during the day and 7 overnight. This is all gang related, this is a area high in gang activity, what do you expect when you put up houses and condos in the middle of a gang area. Just be glad they aren’t targeting anyone but themselves FOR NOW!!!!! You keep boxing the area residents into corners and so the violence spills into your backyard.

dont rent to them go after the landlords

#13 stop generalizing. Do u forget our past? Most of the violence is nit caused by illegals. So there goes ur theory.

What about LCSW?

Amazing how all these biast comments are allowed against bad mandlords and gan members. WHy do you let such insulting comments against other religions on here but stop ones about our own community. Its a real shame that this is what this website has come to. And why would anyone ever think fo going up against these gangs with our LCSW? what do they carry flashlights? wont work to well against a gun, when are you going to learn? How many more injured or worse yet deaths do you need? leave this to the police, because by the LCSW we can now say why isnt the LCSW stopping this crime? they are around so they are as giulty as LPD, stop making excused, this problem has been here far before any of us were here, and most of us are the ones who own these houses, so we cant be hypcrits either. Gangs will always be there no matter what, its a fact we ned to live, crime is in every town nationwide, not just here in Lakewood.
And TLS editor I would appreciate if you would prevent some of these comments about landlords and gang memebers as you do about politics and frum members

I would not blame landlords because as we see with the frum yidden that we have teens at risk these gangs are pretty much all teens or young adults living with their parents who might very well be as normal as can be and anyone would rent to them so keep all your comments to yourself about landlords(and no I don’t own any houses in the area or rent any out).

Lakewood Police needs to bring back their K9 team.

#19no YOU ARE WORMG- these teens are driven to the area for gang and drug activity and usualy its a hous ein the area were the deals are going down. the person murgered was from Jackson. What was he doing in Lakewood at 2:30AM????

and yes when we close down these homes the crimes do go down.

LCSW is not there to fight gangs. They are here to keep an eye on questionable activity and report it to the police. and yes when you have petty criminals trying to break into homes at 10Am or 9 PM they will show up sometimes faster then the police and they will track the criminals and notify the police of the location.

in many out of town places there are community patrols with cars that have large lighted signs on top. when these cars drive around 2-3 hours a night for several nights a week they send a message to the gangs and criminals to find another place to do business. if you care about your area they will leave and find shop somewhere else. if you dont care then the gangs and criminals have free will to take over.

the idea is to not directly approch any gang member. ASK LCSW.

AS a Lakewood old timer, who wasn’t too afraid of most bad neighborhoods, the East End of Lakewood, i.e. Park, Ridge, etc., was always an area I was afraid to drive in. When people starting carving out middle class neighborhoods in the middle of these jungles, I couldn’t imagine WHAT they were thinking. If I had to pick up my kids from friends in these areas, I would make sure to have all my car doors lockes as I drove through (in the days before all cars had automatic locks). I don’t like to blame the victim and now that we live there, we have to try to solve the problem. BUT, it would have been much easier not to create the problem in the first place. A lesson for future developments–Stay away from bad neighborhoods. Your lives and safety are more important than the $$ you save!

The Police are not security gurads and why do people think that the Police can respond to calls and watch neighborhoods at the same time! they are shorthanded! Wake up

OK so in the last few years the following have retired: Capt. Dennis,, Det. Lt. Isnardi, Sgt. Rupp, Capt. Miick, Capt. Holmes, and Sgt. VanDeZilver has been out for over a year. So what do you do? You keep a Sgt. and 2 Officers in charge of training and technology!!! You keep another Officer in RECORDS!!!! You have a Sgt. in charge of the DISPATCHERS!!!! What are 3 officers in QUALITY OF LIFE doing???? You have a Deputy Chief who is “Working on it”!!!!! Are you kidding me TLS please dont delete this message. Who runs the PD????? The politicians???? The Chief?????? They need help. Maybe a professional study of the PD is the right thing to do.

There are about 6 more officers retiring by the end of the year as well, not gonna mention names. They are made up of Traffic & Safety, Detectives and I believe Administration.

Hire more cops!!! Pay your taxes so that Lakewood can hire more COPS!!! When 7 cops are tasked with covering the whole town….What do you expect? More cops on the street equals less crime in the neighborhoods…Plain and simple

I live on the block where one house was owned by an investor and the residents of that house and their large and diverse guest population were terrorizing the entire neighborhood. Police was called in every few days. Several times, we had riot control units over there. Then that house was purchased by another responsible investor and for the last 6 years there was no trouble at all! It is very possible to rehabilitate those trouble spots and make entire neighborhood flourish and this has been done in Lakewood and many other localities.

So if a kid does drugs we should kick his family out of their apartment? Stop with that alteady. probably a jealous renter complaining

#16, Chaim: “our past”??? In my past or in the past of my familiy we did not steal, did not sell drugs, did not form gangs, did not sit on the corners whole day long littering and harrassing pass-byers, did not drive without licence, insurance, and registration. We followed the law and paid our bills. With the name “Chaim,” I wonder who you are whose past you are referring to.

Also, please note no one is blaming the immigrants here but rather those who are creating the conditions using those immigrants that harm the community.
