FIRST REPORT: Thousands of Lakewood children could be affected due to school trailer violations

IMG_1635Thousands of children in Lakewood could be affected following a state inspection of trailers and mobile units at schools.

The trailers are used for tutoring.

The inspection showed violations such as flat tires, missing inspection stickers, cracked windshields and more.

Board of Education member Isaac Zlatkin says they are working to ensure children aren’t affected by this.

“We are working with the state and administration to ensure that no services are interrupted for the thousands of children who could potentially be affected, while the violations of the vendor are being addressed,” Zlatkin told TLS.

  1. “Flat tires, missing inspection stickers, and cracked windshield” ??? is the State serious? They are not driving the children around in those trailers. It is being used as a room and not meant to be mobile. It was only mobile while en route to the location it is now parked for good… are they just trying to mess with the Lakewood kids?

  2. It’s about time the state started inspecting school trailers. Some of them are in deplorable condition. It’s a hazard and completely unsafe for children.

  3. To my2cents: read all the violations not just the ones about the cracked wind shield. There’s more to it. Not everything is about “trying to mess with Lakewood”.

  4. Ref. My 2 cents. I guess you stopped reading the letter. The seating was inappropriate, not level, not secured, too narrow and right next to partially in the doorway. IT’S FOR THE CHILDRENS SAFTEY!! Maybe you would send your child there, not me. In case of a fire hopefully no one would get hurt, ud be the first to blame the twp.

  5. And do they fine all school buses that don’t have functional seatbelts?!? We’re lucky to even have a kid on a school bus!!!! For goodness sake let’s be real!!!

  6. Unfortunately the entire school system is underfunded due to the outdated state formula. The schools themselves are just as crowded and disrepair. Why pick on the trailers. Fix the state formula and fund the schools properly!

  7. I keep saying stop trying to fit 10 lbs in a 1 lb box. Soon you will have schools in tree houses and still say the formula is wrong. stop building schools houses in an overcrowded area. Seems like a good solution to me.
