FIRST REPORT: Summer Food Boxes Likely to Continue in Lakewood, Attorney Michael Inzelbuch Says

The summer food box distribution will likely continue in Lakewood, TLS has learned.

Last week, TLS published an article about the extension of food waivers, prompting many to inquire about summer boxes.

According to Attorney Michael Inzelbuch, the Keep Kids Fed Act recently passed by Congress and signed into law  along with guidance issued today ,very likely will allow for free breakfast and lunches to be served 5 days per week this coming summer, with an increase in reimbursement fees to providers .

TLS was in constant contact with Attorney Inzelbuch regarding the boxes, and moments ago he told TLS, “my preliminary opinion is that this will allow for boxes to be distributed to all children who desperately need meals in Lakewood.”

Additional information will be published when confirmed.

  1. The food is very useful.
Especially with the overpriced food in the stores, and the decision of one big store to decide to charge $1 per box because of the crazy bag law.

  2. “desperately need” 🤣. Many do, but they need to make sure that only those people are getting and that they are getting quality food so it is not going in the garbage. This is government continuing to make a few people rich while our taxes get wasted
. When government does something, they don’t feel the responsibility to the taxpayers that private ycorporations feel to their investors. They require paperwork on top of paperwork, but they miss the main things while they are so busy with the insignificant stuff on the paperwork. Looking forward to more chicken nuggets.

  3. A much better use of the monetary resources would be to give each needy family grocery vouchers so they can buy foods they can actually use. A lot of food that the boxes contained were items that went unused by many.

  4. The reason that some people lobby for this is that they make millions of dollars. Some people who were quite poor before the pandemic became quite rich.
But they became rich on our backs! We had food we didn’t want thanks to them, and the government gave it for us.
I am not demanding that they give out the money to people, but their Tzedaka distribution should be on the Scheiner/Schron standard

  5. To those who don’t know “the desperately hungry children” are those who are still in quarantine due to the uptick of covid.
And those children who refuse to grow up who don’t think there’s any other way to earn money but but to invent new Ways to spend our tax money They seem to be desperate too.

  6. What you don’t realize is with more free boxes the prices will go up even more besides it’s time to stop complaining about groceries all the time they be are a business ! how do you think some groceries felt the past 2 years with 5 or 6 guys making millions in giving out boxes half of it went to the garbage groceries work very hard with the lowest margins to feed you and your family they open early stay open late most of you wouldn’t want to works theses hours and constantly be criticized
With wages going up the past few years they didn’t pass the cost on to you
now with reusable bags cost a 4 times the amount of a plastics shopping bag do the groceries owe you this ? Boxes went up to way over a dollar do they owe you this are you entitled to everything
Please be more appreciative and yes that big store not sure which one you are talking about many wonderful establishments in town gives away 100 specials every week with no profit shop smartly and stop complaining

  7. Whenever vouchers are given it is always given to the poor already eligible for snap and WIC. The middle class never get. I appreciate the food boxes because it went for all. I think the poor on snap benefits can afford more food than the middle class not eligible for the government freebies. If the food was actually healthy that would be the best instead of exotic flavored hot dogs and the like that the manufacturer puts on sale to these food boxes distributers and the kids don’t eat.

  8. @anonymous that is the point. If they are finally give us taxpayers some food, do it right as in the form of EBT cards so that we could also get the biggest bang for the buck. Instead we have people who became גבירים אדירים giving me boxes of food that netted them millions, but increased my sanitation worker’s job.

  9. Some people in this country are so stupid. Like a bunch of mice, they will run for the free cheese without even noticing or caring it is in a trap.

This food is not free. It comes at great cost. Do you think inflation is not bad enough?

Don’t celebrate it. Call your elected representatives and ask them to stop this.

  10. Very nice of everyone to comment about EBT. The middle class got nothing. The boxes were a huge help. It alleviates buying half my grocery list. I’ve never received anything else to help by the pandemic. Please bring back the boxes.

  11. Whoever is eligible for a box should be given a voucher to use in grocery store for FOOD!!!
    no more boxes,no more lines…
Let us buy what we need and use.
    Win-win for budget and kids.
