The reports are in, and Lakewood School District could soon be saving approximately $7,500,000 over three years by outsourcing its public school busing.
As first reported on TLS last month, the Lakewood Board of Education hired independent auditing firms to look into the savings possibilities, and according to those reports just released, the District would see massive savings. The outsourcing would require equal or better service to Lakewood public school students.
The outsourcing, which has no affect on LSTA private school busing, will be voted on tonight by the Board following presentations of the audit results.

If all boe routes will be bid on my Jay’s and klarr etc, we will face a severe shortage, of course it affects the LSTA!
I drive by the school bus parking lot about 10 times a day , been saying forever what a dumb idea it was to buy 50 busses that basically sit idle all day. Could never see how buying busses made any sense; hiring drivers, insurance, maintenance, liability, etc etc. About time they outsource it. One caveat: Sell all the busses the same day to the vendor
So let me get this straight. When they waste money nothing, then they cut out their waste and we should sing their praise?
They did this many years ago and there were no savings ,it actually ended up costing more in the long run.
I think if a busing company can make this work and be profitable why can’t the Lakewood BOE ? Maybe the selling of the buses will pay for the 3 million dollar LSTA deficit .
