The Lakewood Board of Education could save over $2,000,000 in public school transportation costs, TLS has learned.
The Board last night voted to have three firms review the numerous bid responses that were received yesterday. The effort, according to the Board, is to obtain the most objective, thorough, and independent review of the numerous bid responses received yesterday.
The independent Auditing firms are Fallon and Company, Hazlet; Holman, Freina & Allison, Toms River; PKF O ‘Connor Davies, Cranford.
TLS has learned that based on initial indications, the District could possibly realize 2 plus million dollars in savings, while providing district students with safe and reliable transportation.
A special meeting to discuss the matter is being held on Tuesday, February 12.

Beware of loss leader bids that are low to get in the door and spiral in the future. The independent consultant Ross Haber recommended keeping the inhouse transportation operation after an extensive months long study. The bids must be compared to the cost of transportation after implementation of the consultant’s recommendations.
This conclusion sounds too good to be true with words like “initial indications” and “could possibly realize”.
