First Ever In Lakewood’s Frum Community: HVAC-R Course To Begin Monday

The frum community’s first ever HVAC-R course is about to begin and a final call for any interested students is being announced. The course, arranged by the Learn and Network organization in conjunction with Ocean County College’s Vocational Training School, offers community members top notch professional training with special sensitivity to our needs.

The HVAC-R course, following the launch of Learn and Network’s plumbing course, will train students in all of the basic skills necessary for residential HVAC including: maintenance, installation and repair of heating, air conditioning and commercial refrigeration equipment, and basic theory and operation of mechanical components and electrical controls. The course will begin next Monday.

  1. I encourage EVERYONE to take this class. I needed an AC repaired last summer, everyone I called was “backed up’. Finally, one guy I found said he could squeeze me in at 630pm, after he finished 8 jobs before me. His service call was $75 plus another $100 for repairs. He probably made over $1000 in one day. AC repairman, plumbers, appliance repairman make more than doctors

  2. To Everyone; Interesting how everyone is always counting everyone else’s money. My husband has a bh well established hvac company not in lkwd and charges more than you paid (out of town service is always higher) and your statement about how much we make in comparison to doctors is untrue and not based on facts. Did u know that a can of freon which used to be $40 is over $450 a can now?!?! Copper costs a fortune!!!! Competition is fierce and ppl will charge next to nothing just to “get a job”. So before you ramble about how much we make check the facts! It’s a physical labor job and remember that sometimes we go on a service call and make the standard fee and can be in one house for 3 hrs!!!! I’m not c”v complaining but lets not paint a picture that isn’t when dispensing advice that ppl need to invest $ into!!!

  3. I have been advocating the restoration of the district community school for five years to serve our people with professional and vocational training. However, in an email sent to the superintendent on May 23, 2012, I pointed out the great financial windfall to Lakewood taxpayers by going with the county.

N.J. Statute 18A:54-29.2 authorizes that the “county vocational school district shall receive such funds as may be appropriated by the county.” The total operating budget for the county school in 2010 is $24,346,175. The tuition from districts is only $226,36. State aid is $4,881,179. The county tax levy is $17,364,646.

The county tax levy is spread out among county taxpayers.

The disadvantage of using county auspices rather than our own district is that with appropriate executive leadership, the Lakewood School District could use its connection to the people to recruit and accommodate the local population. It could provide jobs for Lakewooders, save existing teacher jobs, and a promote a general renaissance for our high school. It would also be easier to establish separate gender courses if we acted under our own auspices, pursuant to federal regulation.

Perhaps, with the right leadership, we can have both.

Ur point is well taken. I just wanted ppl to have true picture before jumping into something that’s presented as easy, and by the first commentator as more lucrative than doctors. I’m the one who knows that going into an attic that can be 150 degrees in the summer heat to fix someone’s air conditioning system is not something all ppl can deal with and most ppl don’t realize the physical labor , sweat, coming home at Shkiah on erev shabb cuz ppl put pressure to have a/c up and running before shabb…that this job entails. Hatzlochah to all those taking the course!
