PHOTOS: A fire on the first day Rosh Hashana caused severe damage to a resident’s home. At approximately 3:30 PM on the fist day Rosh Hashana, Hatzolah was called to a home in the 14th Street area for reports of a fire. Upon arrival, the Hatzolah member could see a lot of smoke
pouring from the home, and immediately called for the Fire Department.
A General Alarm was hit out, prompting a large response.
The fire was brought under control shortly afterwards.
The Fire Marshal’s office responded as well.
The fire reportedly started from the area of the Pesach kitchen.
Nobody was inured, and the family moved into neighbors for the remainder of Yom Tov.
LCSW provided security for the home over Yom Tov.
TLS has also learned, that the fire department responded to many calls of CO over Yom Tov. TLS-CCP/TLS-64.
god bless the LFD they are the best
you are not allowed to call anyone for a fire on shabbos or yom tov (maybe only second day) unless the fire is an actual danger to someone- if everyone is out of the house there is not danger why call hatzalah what are they supposed to do.
Does enyone know who it is
I was there, the fire dept showed up ELEVEN MINUTES after the cleaning lady called 911.
To #4 is that good or bad?!!?!
why are people calling Hatzolah first for emergencies that they are not trained or equipped to handle? why are people this adamant about avoiding non frum services?
i think the jewish leaders (to save lives) need to bring up the fact that people are avoiding contacting the proper authorities, thus increasing response times = more deaths.
Hatzolah is an ambulance service, not police officers, not firemen.. just an ambulance.
so please dont call an ambulance when your house is on fire, or you are being robbed.
CRIME: or the suspicion of crime = POLICE
FIRE: or the suspicion of fire = FIRE DEPT
HEALTH ISSUES: = TOWNSHIP AMBULANCE or Hatzolah, YOUR CHOICE.
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH = LCSW
please dont group all the problems to one organization OR MIX AND MATCH AS YOU PLEASE.
Simple answer, Haztola was on the scene in less than one minuet while the lakewood fire dept and ems took a long eleven minuets. They cam be well equipment but to late is no help at all!
Why call an ambulance for a house fire? Would you call the fire dept if your house was robbed? Please common sense.Stay safe.
It was Eleven minutes from when the person called to the first truck arriving..that may seem like a long time but its not..First remember you called 9-1-1 they are not in lakewood they are a county agency..they have to contact lakewood with the information, that takes up to 2 minutes..dispatching the call takes another couple minutes..YOU get a complete response in 6 minutes from time of dispatch. FYI you must realize that even though Lakewood has 2 paid trucks they were hopping all day and night the last couple of days..busy with CO calls and other emergencies..they may have not been in their firehouse and responding from another location. Hatzolah is a first responder and a vital part of lakewood but they are not trained firefighters nor expected to be there to put out a fire. YOU should call 911 first, that gets everyone on the way..the first police officers arrived in 5 min of the call..that is Incredible, first trucks were on scene by 8 mins of the call for fire…Volunteers take time to get to the firehouses, and then drive to the fire…Remember don’t criticize.you can always join if you think you would be an asset to the department.
Someone always has to complain about something…No one got hurt, the fire was out in a couple minutes and our Fire dept, EMS, Hatzolah and Police all went home safe..Be thankful for that
I’d rather them late and well equipped than early and empty handed! Fires don’t need more spectators than they already have. So I’ll take the well trained and equipped guys 11min late
#7, why did they call HATZOLAH first and not 911. I can bet all that your community rig was there quick cause it was propabably parked at someones house in your area… LKWD FD puts up with alot so be nice.
#2-
The halacha is not as simple as you think. Check with your local knowledgeable individual.
It is a Mitzvah tp publicize to people, that there is a chiyuv to put out a fire where there is even a REMOTE chance that it might spread to other houses and place other people in danger. {See MB 334/74]
I know of a small fire in a lakewood house that caused alot of smoke. It took the parents a long time to one of the children to cooperate and come out of the house. Even if there are no children in the house that is burning, there might be children or sick people in the house this fire could spread to.
In short don’t play around with calling for help when it comes to fir.
to # 3,
Are you just curious or your intentions are pure,
Take a drive over & knock on their door.
Ask all ur sheilos just so you are sure,
ask about damage, injuries & more.
Ask about the smoke,
did anyone almost choke,
remind them your serious & its not just a joke.
remember ask about insurance cause your intentions are pure,
oh! & don`t forget about chol hamoed, (ask nicely) how about a tour!
Maybe some1 was hurt! You never Know!!!!
Here we go again.
From the time the first engine signed on the air to respond to the fire call to the time it arrived on 14TH Street WAS NOT eleven minutes, Check the tapes at police HQ. not even close
If it did take 11 minutes to get a fire truck to the scene, the fire would have destroyed more of the home. Looks like it was contained to the west side first floor room with smoke and water damage to other parts of the structure.
While the town is blessed with many great groups such as Haztzolah ,EMS, Vol. First Aid Sq and others when you have a fire you call the Lakewood Fire Dept or Lakewood Police FIRST
I hope that the reluctance of many to call the proper group first when reporting a fire never cost someone their life .
How did you get these pictures on Yom Tov??
Why did lcsw get involved they r not police men
To #17 after the fire lcsw watched the house!!!!!!!
Perhaps all 911 calls should NOT GO THRU THE COUNTY BUT A SYSTEM WHEE IT GOES DIRECTLY TO THE TWP. THIS IS NOT A SITUATION WE CARE TO HEAR ABOUT.
#17 lcsw has some non-jewish members who are on duty on shabbos and jewish holidays.
Dear editor
Please remove #2 recklessand incorrect comment
In the sefer Emergencies in Halach from Rabbi Moshe Rotberg he writes very clearly that today one must call te fire department even if its only a sofek pikuach nefesh. Since our homes are so closely placed it can very easily come to a situtaion of pikuach nefesh for further information check out the sefer on page 225
Why does anyone assume that the fire department was called after hatzolah. I may sound like everyone else who says they know things but I happen to know that 7411 (the first paid truck there) was in rt to the fire almost exactly the same time hatzolah was going and it was not called in by hatzolah. It happens to be that the hatzolah guys lives less then a block from the fire there fore he was there in a min and the fire truck a few min later.
U GUYS ARE SERIOUSLY PATHETIC, ARGUEING WHO SAW WHAT AND WHEN ..WHAT TIME THE FIRE TRUCKS CAME…HOW OLD ARE YOU? AND WHY ARE U ALLOWED ON THE INTERNET?
Wow, one day after Yom Hadin and we’re bickering again. I guess some things never change.
I had a fire in my house ,and call hatzlah first and I tell you why; when there is a active fire there are two issues #1 save the people #2 put out the fire. If a truck come in 6min or 8min or 11 min does not matter to save anyone to save the people in the hause may depend on the fist 2min(when no-one even expects FD two be there )the fire may still be ‘small’ but if you get evryone out in time its a save! That’s why 911 send PD first , to get evryone out hatzola member has told me that the right thing to do, & when called them evryone (including FD ) told me “we you have 7kid at home call who ever will there faster” the call FD the call takes 20sec. Hope no one needs but that is the way to do
Thank you hatzala lpd lfd oem lcsw for every thing you do to help us in these hard times
We all feel so bad for the family
To #9 your adding up the minutes looks very nice at first glance. But in all fairness, 6 minute response from time of dispatch is acceptable. I can’t buy the other 5 minutes. 1 minute for the County to take the info- okay. Why 2 minutes to give the info the the twp? And I really can’t understand why it should take “another couple minutes” to dispatch the call?? 30-45 seconds should be more than enough time. If they would and could cut out 3 minutes from an 11 minute response, it would be over 25% reduction in response time. Just something to think about.
Hey yakov:
Great idea let some one run into a smoke filled building without any gear on … guess what that does ….. now you have another victim over come by smoke and the FD has to get them out to get to the first victim, how much time is lost carrying out a victim. If you think it is such a great idea to run into a burning building then join the FD and learn how to do it right!
If the pictures were taken for a yid it is assur to have benefit from them even after yom tov. See psak of Rav Elyashiv in Orchos Shabbos.
who house it was. If they need a hand out it would be my pleasure to drop some food off. It’s our duty to help the needy
Looks like someone tried to put it out long before they called the fire dept..how come the article says it happened at 3:30 in the afternoon but the fire dept was not called out until 4:35?? Someone is either not good on their times or they waited an hour to call..Now that Has TO STOP>>call the fire dept..get them coming..it makes all the difference.
What is a CO call?
Could someone say who’s house it is do they nead money could someone please talk
To #31 I’m really impressed!! Thats the way all commments should be! Not mocking and if the fire dep showed up 11 min or 10 minutes after they called!!!! Everyone learn from #31!!!!!!!!!
They don’t need money
Fires are very scary especially when people are in the house. It’s a shame if valuables and paperwork were lost.
To #36 and 37 what are you trying to say???!!?!
maybe they just panicked (its a pretty scary thing)
The family bh does not need $
Ty
CO is Carbon Monoxide. Silent, Odorless, Lethal. Get a detector or 2 or 3 and test the one’s you have.
As of Resident of Lakewood Township I am feed up with certian Comments being made about The Lakewood Fire Department and the Lakewood voulnteers .Why would you call Hatzolahh If a house is on fire ???? Then Complain the Fire Department Doesnt respond fastHa enough .Next Time someone is having a Heart Attack i will call Lakewood Fire Department before calling Hatzolah
there were many children playing in the house and an elderrly relative also lives there. i would think that constitutes enough pikuach nefesh to call the fire dept.
Faimly doesn’t need any money don’t worry b’h they have it all work out
Let’s give this family support by offering them food money clothing etc whatever they need, instead of this none sense bashing!
BH the family is ok!! but thanx
