Fire Commissioner Mike Dennis has resigned, TLS has learned. Citing personal reasons, the Fire Commissioner announced his resignation during last night’s Fire Commissioner meeting.
The resignation was effective immediately.
Dennis served on the Fire Commissioner board for about 13 years.
“Mike Dennis was a dedicated and knowledgeable fire commissioner, who gave years of hard work to the Board and the Fire Department,” says Fire Commissioner Larry Loigman. “His experience will be missed. During the last six months, he spent an unbelievable amount of time acting, in effect, as our unpaid interim business manager. I am sorry to see him leave his position, but I know that his support for the Fire Department will continue.”Â
His position of Chairman was handed over to Commissioner Juan Ortiz.
“In handing over the chairman’s seat to Juan Ortiz, Mike has left the Board with strong direction for the future,” Loigman said.
The Board also hired a new Business Manager. Ray Blasczak, a retired NJ State Police Captain, was hired at a salary of $85,000, says Loigman.
John Stillwell, a firefighter and retired police officer, was voted in to replace Dennis. [TLS]

Thank you.
Loigman was appointed treasure not sure about secretary , away from mike stepping down and john being appointed new commissioner it was a boring meeting
It’s a very sad and upsetting day to see such a knowledgeable and good firefighter and person have to step down from such an important position. I have known Mike for many years, even remember him when he first got on the Police force. I can’t say I have one bad thing to say about him.
I hope Mike will continue to remain active with the Fire Dept., it would be a shame to lose a good experienced firefighter. We need to try and keep our experienced firefighters. The young and new firefighters have so much more to learn before they can even think about stepping into some of our shoes.
Good luck and Thank you Mike.
Anyone cutting the grass at the fire station? They are looking shabby these day .
budget cuts number 7 hahahah
Congratulations Juan on your new appointment!!
the lakewood fd budget was said to be full of wasteful spending so they cut where they can so no cut grass!
So now the town will fine us for high grass.
Thank you for all your hard work and dedication.
The #4 Firehouse is always cut and up to township standards. So please stop nit picking on the houses of Lakewoods bravest. Firefighters and the LPD are the true heroes of the town and we should’nt forget that.
