Fire At Rehabilitation Hospital In Toms River Determined To Be From Faulty Electrical Equipment

On Friday afternoon, at approximately 3:53 p.m., the Toms River Fire Department was dispatched to an activated fire alarm at Encompass Health on Hospital Drive. Shortly thereafter, additional calls were received reporting a fire on the roof of the building.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered smoke and flames coming from the roof of the medical facility above the office area. The fire department utilized a water fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire. The damage was contained to the building’s exterior. No injuries were reported, and no patients were affected by the fire.

The fire investigation and scene examination were conducted by Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention Inspector DeEsposito. The fire was determined to be accidental, caused by the failure of energized electrical equipment located on the roof of the structure.
