A sprinkler system is credited for sparing an industrial building in Lakewood, fire officials say.
A fire broke out at the building in Excel Park shortly before 11 PM, and drew a large response from all of Lakewood’s fire companies, as well as mutual aid from neighboring town.
However, the sprinkler system quickly extinguished the flames, leaving the building with just a heavy smoke condition.
“This is the first time in 30 years that I’ve seen a sprinkler system hold up so well,” said a fire chief. “Had they not activated, we would have lost the entire building. Luckily, only two units sustained damage.”
The cause of the fire was reportedly a faulty battery from a bluetooth device.
