Fewer New Jersey school districts are using ballot questions this year to seek voter approval for facility repairs and other projects. That comes in the wake of a sharp decrease in state aid, spurred by the struggling economy and massive state budget deficits. Only a dozen or so districts will ask residents to spend extra money by way of ballot questions or bond referenda when school elections are held April 20. Some are trying to win back cuts they were forced to make regarding busing, sports, arts and other programs. Others have proposed bond referendums to cash in on a state grant program that will pay for up to 40 percent of some school renovations. AP/APP
