Many readers are reporting feeling ground shaking around Lakewood and surrounding townships. As earlier reported, the Marines 3rd Battalion and 6th Engineer Support Battalion are conducting live fire artillery training at Joint Base MDL and areas along or close to Route 70. The training will continue until February 21.
The Joint Base earlier this week announced the training is slated to take place during daylight and evening hours. The training will consist of firing 155 mm howitzers. On Feb. 20, the 6th ESB will be conducting demolitions between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
During this three-day training, the joint base community and residents of the surrounding areas may experience ground shaking and considerable noise coming from the ranges. The noise may travel farther during overcast weather conditions.
“Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst appreciates the patience and support of our surrounding communities as we continue to ensure the readiness of America’s fighting force,” the Base wrote.

And I thought it was the firing of DPW employees and State monitors. Silly me.
We are so proud of our men and women in uniform
@ Louis yes we certainly are
Thank you for taking proper measures!!!
Howitzers , Really ? That’s amazing. I can not imagine any scenario in which the US Army would find a need to fire Howitzers. Unless Mexico suddenly invaded. Or Canada. And even then, highly doubtful. Either way, thanks for keeping us safe !!
Heard it last night way past 5 pm
The sound of freedom
I am getting me one a’ dem Howitzers for my 45th birthday. Then I could shoot down all dem overgrown trees and shrubs in me backyard. Don’t have to spend no more money on my landscaper.
