Fed up with carpooling, more Lakewood parents hailing taxis to transport their children to school

taxiWith thousands of children still without busing, more and more parents are using taxis to transport their children to school.

Parents tell TLS they’ve just had it with trying to juggle morning and afternoon traffic – and their job in between.

“Paying for a car service means I’m making less money now, but I was literally at risk of losing my job because my boss just wasn’t taking the excuse anymore,” one mother said.

Even those carpooling are using taxis to take their shift, buying themselves an extra hour in the day.

“I just can’t handle this traffic anymore. I have a life to run besides carpool,” another mother wrote to TLS.

According to Attorney Michael Inzelbuch, there are still several thousand mandated children without busing.

The LSTA Director in his latest update said there were about 15 more routes taken, and they’re working on dozens more – hopefully for this week.

“The overall process of having additional runs picked up and put on the road is ongoing, and we will continue to make every effort to place as many children on buses in the quickest time period as possible,” Krawiec said.

  1. I know that this was supposed to be hammered out before the school year. Is someone able to demand that it’s dealt with during the prior year or summer? It’s like a surprise every year.

  2. why are the Lakewood bd of ed buses not helping with routes not covered when 80 percent of buses are idle after 9 and after 4. meanwhile these drivers are all getting approved for overtime, 10 sick days, 4 personal days please explain

  3. Saw Lakewood small bus 108 sleeping with engine off in Coventry the other morning at 7 05 am. get that driver awake and on the road.
these drivers are getting paid for 37.5 hours anything over 40 is time and a half and they are only driving no more than five hours a day. cant you help this mr inzelbuch??

  4. Perhaps Lakewood taxpayers should be thinking about building bike lanes, not on the road, but off-road, so everyone can use their bike to get around town. Think of the good exercise it would provide all those who could, not just school children, make use of a bike. It certainly could help school children get to school, probably much faster than taking any kind of road transportation.

  5. The BOE busses are not authorized to run Private school runs. They are there for the Public schools only. That is the problem of the Private Bus Companies. Unfortunately, the BOE busses do sit idle sometimes due to their runs not being so close together.

  6. This is so disheartening. My kids get bussing but I have who R still stuck and it’s terrible. I think in beginning of the yr, they should’ve told the bus companies, u want to its A B & C, cuz they’re profitable, then u also have to take M, N & O which are not (so) profitable. It’s not fair. All the smaller schools got messed up. It’s not right. I would even make a student strike. No kids goto school till everyone has busing. For real.

  7. Although my daughter was finally put on a bus going home, she cant go on it because for some reason the bus will only stop on a busy road with no sidewalks. How do they expect a 7 yr old to walk a few blocks without sidewalks ( and soon in the dark)? I pay tremendous amounts of taxes, cant I get anything for it? Why are we being jipped??????its time we all unite as a whole team and stop paying taxes until we get something for it!!! Then maybe our voice will really be heard
