Father Reports Attempted Luring Incident in Westgate

A father says his daughter was nearly lured by two men in Westgate on Shabbos afternoon. The father relates that at about 4:00 p.m. on Shabbos afternoon, his daughter was standing with another girl on Hillside Boulevard, when a black pickup truck with two occupants stopped near them and motioned to the girls to come over to the car.

The girls froze, says the father, and when one of the occupants opened the vehicle’s door, the girls fled into a nearby home. The vehicle then fled the area, the father says.

The father described the men as white, with tattoos, and were slightly tanned.

After Shabbos, the father notified LCSW of the incident. LCSW says they then turned the information over to police.

The father asked that the incident be reported so that the community is aware “that there are dangerous people lurking around.” [TLS-00/TLS-CCP]

  1. “A father says his daughter was nearly abducted” + “After Shabbos, the father notified LCSW of the incident” = OMG!!!!!!

  2. Rabbi (moderated) paskend that if you see a goy/robber coming out of a house on shabees you can call the police with a shinoy because you never know what they will do next

  3. Slightly tan, white, and tattoos, that describes pretty much everyone living on the eastern seaboard.
Maybe it was an attempted abduction, better safe than sorry.
Not everyone has evil intentions and at times we have a knee jerk reaction. We want everyone to be safe and aware of their surroundings. But don’t live in constant fear and create days of mistrust and anxiety.

  4. why oh why dod you call LCSW ? There are our children!!!!!! yet we dont call the police !!! I cannot understand this ! the LCSW called the police right away , so by calling the LCSW first all we did was waste time. The LCSW is amazing but folks when it comes to the safty of our children we have to call the Police !!! find a goy to make the call ! i have daughters as well i want this guy off the streets

  5. who the….has the lcsw phone number more readily then the cops??? call the cops, call the cops and call the cops. This is pkuch nefesh…whats with people? waiting till AFTER shabbos and callin some volunteer patrol organazation? H_shem Yiracheim.

  6. You need to alert the POLICE and without waiting for sundown. Is anything more important than protecting the lives of these children? These guys, if they even were looking to lure a child, could have just sat around waiting for the next young girl to come by. Why fear? No one is going to report them and if so, it’s only the LCSW.

  7. I’m sure if a half hour later they would have C”V abducted a different child, you would have felt very good about not reaching out to PD somehow. (even on Shabbos) and I’m not paskining that you could call them, but I’m sure you could figure out how to notify them somehow!

  8. “A father says his daughter was nearly abducted in Westgate on Shabbos afternoon…two occupants stopped near them and motioned to the girls to come over to the car”

motioned to the girls to come over is not nearly abducted.

  9. Wow… You believed your daughter was almost abducted, but no big deal it can wait a day. What if your daughter had been abducted, would you have waited then.
I just don’t understand people sometimes.

  10. Call the police on shabbos. you can use a Shinu.
your chumra, of waiting to call the police, may have costed C”v someones life.

  11. Wow , UNREAL . But I definetly can see it happening , especially in Lakewood . But I bet you if his daughter scrapped her knee on Shabbos , there would be five Hatzolah trucks there. I think the Rabbonim in town should put out a combined letter , highlighting cases like this and the need to call the POLICE not LCSW, it could have had a terrible ending R”L .

  12. I’m just trying to figure out why call the lcsw before the police?
It makes more sense in an emergency to notify the police department because they are trained and know how to deal w emergencies. After meaning that it passed it makes even more sense because who will take the report and document it??? The lcsw??? Or the police depo? Next time CALL the POLICE!!

  13. let other parents learn from these two bright girls..they did exactly the right thing in this possibly dangerous situation..they did not approach the men..rather they ran to the closest house..all parents need to teach their children the safe steps to take in this and other potentially unsafe situations.

  14. If the father suspected the girls could have been lured into the car, shouldn’t he have immediately consulted a Rov to determine if they should contact Police/LCSW on shabbos? Chas v’sholom, that same van could have proceeded into another neighborhood and repeated the scenario.

  15. Lakewood needs a Magenu to come into their elementary schools and teach the children and parents about Saftey issues.

  16. Cameras. Why hasn’t westgate installed cameras?

    What are you waiting for?

Had their been cameras with good resolution u can catch these thugs.

  17. We watch the news and can read the numbers, OUR police department is seriously understaffed. Thats right they are down more than 20 members and with retirements coming up they are going to be down another 12 or so. Now you can make all the comments about calling the police or not, but soon when we call we will face huge delays and wait times before a real police officer arrives. Our town fore fathers are not facing the facts and choose to bury their heads in the sand. Wake up people.

  18. Even if he called the police most likely there wouldn’t have been a free unit because the politicians have run down the police department to dangerously low numbers. LPD is short by at least 30 officers.

  19. I agree with #11. Also, how many people need to say the exact same thing all the other people already said. Unbelievable. People can get the point without such inane repetition.

  20. When the builders supply cameras there will be cameras. Fewer cops in faster cars, what’s the shailoh? Limaysoh, nothing ever really happened, so relax.

  21. they father called the lcsw after shabos. At that point the men and truck were long gone. When you call police it’s for an emergency- sowmthing bad is happening right now. In this case motzei shabos it was not an emergency, making the police come out right now. It was “old news”. Something I would have called 311 for.

  22. there is more to the story my brother on kingsfield drive in westgate was motioned to come to there pickup truck by the same people and he also ran to a nearby house
