Prosecutor’s Office: Fatal Tent City Fire Ruled As Accidental

The fast-moving blaze which left a homeless man dead in his tent, has been ruled as accidental, Ocean County’s Executive Assistant Prosecutor Michael Paulhus tells TLS. Paulhus says candles and a chimeny were used in the camp to keep the tents warm, and the wind could have toppled a candle which then caught fire, although that has not yet been confirmed as the case.

The badly burned victim has not yet been identified, Paulhus says. TLS.

How was it an accident? If they were living in shelters and not in the woods this would have never happened. I hold the town responsible.

We should get the judge that rulled that the the homeless could stay in the woods and 1. (moderated) and 2. we should make him clean up the mess that could have been avoided.

just my opinion

I agree completely with your first 2 sentences. The third should be changed to “I hold Brigham responsible.”

Fires don’t happen in shelters and buildings? OK. Another smart comment on this site.

Shelters and buildings are required by code to have sprinkler systems and smoke detectors. So yes fires do happen in buildings and shelters, certainly but there are numerous protections in place to protect the welfare of the residents. In “tent city” the only protection they have is what the reverend gives them.

I’m so glad evryone is volunteering some type of support for a shelter
property, property tax, employees, doctor’s. etc. I’m sure all of us could come up with a place, and could do collections to get it started.

Get that liberal judge down here and let him see for himself what he caused.
