Fast Of Asara B’Teves To Be Observed Tomorrow – Erev Shabbos

asara btevesTomorrow, is the tenth day of Teves, the only Taanis which falls out on Friday, and is observed on Erev Shabbos. The Fast of the Tenth of Teves marks the day that Nevuzadran, the Babylonian general, laid siege to Jerusalem prior to the destruction of the first Bais Hamikdash. The siege lasted almost three years until the city walls were breached and the Bais Hamikdash was destroyed. This was the beginning of a long line of disasters on the Jewish people, including the first exile, and the destruction of the second Temple.

  1. “Although a Fast day which falls on Friday is usually postponed until Sunday, Asara B’teves does not and will therefore be commemorated this year on Erev Shabbos.”

Which fast that falls on Friday is postponed to Sunday?

  2. To #4 – the closest thing to a fast to fall on Friday would be a case when Purim is on Sunday and so Taanis Esther which cannot be on Shabbos so would have to be on Friday, which also cannot be and so it gets pushed back another day to Thursday. but youre right there is no case that it gets postponed, the only scenario is the case of Taanis Esther, and that gets pushed back.

  3. Earliest mincha tomorrow is at 12:16 at Kol Shimshon
(There are minyanim for mincha there every 15 minutes until 2 pm and then every 30 minutes until 4 pm)
