Farmers Market Back In Business In Downtown For Trial Period

farmers market july 2011PHOTOS: The downtown Sunday Farmers Market which drew much controversy last year, is back in business, for now. The Farmers Market, located in the Employment Service (Muster) Zone, has been approved by the Committee to set up shop for a two week trial period.

The Market offers locally grown fruits and vegetables, and accepts WIC and Senior Farmers’ Market checks.

Last year, police and the inspection department dismanteled the shop after the shop was set up without a proper permit from the Township.

The market is open from 9AM-2PM. TLS-6466.

  1. I had to read this story three times.

The farmers market.. an effort by local businesses to sell healthy fruits and vegetables, was shut down due to lack of permit… for operating out of the city sanctioned “muster zone”, an area set up to allow illegals the opportunity to gain off the books employment.

    I am dizzy..

  2. Why was this posted at 2 pm at which point the market closes and it’s too late to go? I would have liked to purchase farm fresh fruit and vegetables.
I will try to remember for next week. Maybe a post at 9 am will help those of us who want to go.
    Thank you.

  3. Finally a place in Lakewood to use our NJ Farmers Market checks. We used to have to go to Hallock’s farm near Plumstead to spend them.

  4. Thanks Hershel! A Job well done! This is another example of what HH can do for Lakewood! With the thousands of families in lakewood on wic its thousands of extra dollars in their pockets every month!

Thanks Mayor Miller for allowing this to happen!

Mayor Miller and Hershel Hershkowitz for a better lakewood!

  5. Yes I could.. and pay $3 a pound for red peppers… or go to a local outdoor market and pay 79 cents a pound for the same pepers.

  6. What does Herskowitz have to do with this??? He’s not even on the committee. Lets read this again, :approved by the township committee”!

  7. to 11
It was Hershel Herskowitz’s idea. He was the one who brought up the idea and even did it once. (among many other useful ideas which were hijacked by others and brought forth under their own names)

  8. I can’t imagine HH would allow ppl to come & sell goods without paying local taxes. Without paying taxes, they are unfairly competing with our local stores that are struggling to stay alive.
    Go Back To your Farms!
Support your local merchants or else soon we will just have Walmarts !

  9. what is the address?

many people do not know where the “muster zone” is.

remind us Friday, MOTZUAY”SH, Sunday early AM

    thank you

  10. How would HH like it if they started to sell toys at the farmers market. I think he would be against it then. Ok to put our fruit and veggie stores out of business though.
