Fake Name Gives Away Fugitive-Arrested In Lakewood

handcuffsA man wanted by police for allegedly threatening to shoot a group of people in Berkeley earlier this year was arrested the morning of September 4th after a borough patrolman realized he gave false information during a motor vehicle stopPatrolman Matthew Kline pulled over a 2003 Toyota on Route 37 at about 2:30 a.m. for a minor motor vehicle infraction, Sgt. Ronald Heinzman said. Kline recognized a passenger in the car as Anthony L. King, 37, who was wanted on an outstanding $75,000 warrant issued by Superior Court in Toms River. King has been wanted since March, when he allegedly brandished a handgun, demanded money and threatened to shoot a group of people in front of a Manitou Park home. At the time, police charged him with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. King allegedly gave Kline a fictitious name and address and was initially released from the traffic stop, Heinzman said. Kline later obtained a picture of King through motor vehicle records, realized he had been in the stopped car and proceeded to the Lakewood address he was provided during the stop. With the assistance of Lakewood police, King was placed under arrest and charged with hindering apprehension and possession of marijuana. He was lodged in Ocean County Jail on the strength of the outstanding warrant as well as more than $51,000 in unpaid child support, Heinzman said. Assisting Kline were officers Jared Carey and Jeffrey Emmons. APP
