  1. Very well said. The main thing that I think needs reiterating is that this was done in a compassionate manner. What we came across as in the general media, and even in some comments here that weren’t worded so sensitively was basically that the Orthodox community in Lakewood is kicking the homeless onto the street because we couldn’t care less about them.
It’s important to note that besides for being illegal, their residency in tent city was not safe for their wellbeing, and the township is currently paying their rent in safe and upstanding housing. I don’t think that is uncaring; I think that is the opposite. As the deputy mayor said, we took responsibility for the homeless who came to us from all over the world and are paying their way BECAUSE WE CARE.
I wish all those from Tent City well and I pray that they find ways and means to live a productive, successful, happy and meaningful life.
Please check in here as you have in the past and let us know how you are doing.
Also, I respect and admire Rev. Steve Brigham for devoting his life to his charges and for doing whatever he can to create a sense of community and provide for their welfare. He seems like a good man and I wish him luck in his future endeavors as well.

  2. A triumph of compassion, kindness, and civic responsibility!

Those championing ‘the cause’ that these people continue to live in inhumane conditions because of their emotional problems are soulless and cruel.

Thank you Commiteemen Akerman and Lichtenstein for truly helping the less fortunate among us, and putting an end to the indignity and disgrace known as ‘Tent City’.

  3. Thanx R’ Isaac for bringing this to an end. Dont lisyen to the naysayers. The ppl who wanted them to stay in Tent City think they’re being compassionate, they’re not, theyre cruel. Isaac is the compassionate one.
