Lakewood Police Officers on heightened alert following the attempted assassination of a Philadelphia police officer, TLS has learned.
Police Chief Rob Lawson tells TLS he received a memo from the Department of Homeland Security to advise officers to exercise extra caution at all times in response to the shooting.
Philadelphia Police Officer Jesse Hartnett was sitting in his patrol car on Saturday night when he was approached by a man who fired at least 13 shots in an attempted assassination in the name of Islam, authorities said (see video below). The officer was struck in the arm and then managed to get out of his car and return fire, striking the suspect as he fled.
The suspect was apprehended and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault of a law enforcement officer and several firearms crimes. The officer is in stable condition.
“We advised officers that if you’re parked somewhere and doing paper work, be alert of your surroundings,” Police Chief Rob Lawson told TLS.
Lakewood this week will also be marking the fifth anniversary of the murder of Police Officer Chris Matlosz, who was shot and killed in his patrol car.

VIDEO OF THE SHOOTING (VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED).
Probably a good idea to notify the public to watch out for the police too. Them on high alert means everyone pulled over for minor infractions can expect to be treated like major criminals.
A lot of people across the country are really fed up with police hiding in police traps and giving tickets for silly things. Then car insurance goes up, 10-20 times the cost of ticket. Plus lawyer fees and so on. They should reexamine their policies regarding this problem. It is causing alot of hate especially by the average person.
I hope all the Police Officers stay safe, at least they have their Firearms to protect themselves .
It’s time law abiding citizens in this State get the same protection as well …….
#1 and #2 all i hear from your comments is “waaaaah!”. If only you lived in a world without police officers or a world that truly restrained police officers based soley on the word for word definition of a constitution written 200+ years ago…what a wonderful world it would be….NOT! We as human beings would tear this world apart if it wasnt for our military and law enforcement. Brave men and women who day in and day out take all sorts of for having unimaginable integrity and bravery. Sure out of the almost 800000 sworn law enforcement officers you get one or two rotten apples that we as the general public allow to ruin our perception of them. Its mental midgets like 1 and 2 who take a general threat on law enforcement and turn it into some self rightouse woe to thy people hatred on law enforcement. Funny it be people like 1 and 2 who would be the first pleading for mercy and asking where the cops were in said world. Get your mind right people, quit the hate, follow the rules and make these poor peoples job a little less harder than it already is. Rip 317!
This article is to warn and help protect those that put their lives on the line everyday to protect us, not to complain about speeding tickets or insurance going up, bottom line follow the law and u won’t have to worry about getting a ticket
I am not talking about speeding tickets. I am hearing from people who got stopped in police traps for very silly things. This is the policy with the law enforcement so called (hero’s) all they want is to give tickets. They are not interested in safety etc. I am not referring to the bad apples but rather to the majority of the officers. They need to meet quota’s for giving tickets. This is straight from the attorney generals down to the newbie.
Just let them be safe….
I am glad the officers are advised, i guess all of us in the other emergency services do not need to be spoken to by our chief(s). Leave it to us to do this ourselves. Thats OK lakewood we are use to that.
Police “traps” and quotas are against the law. Just because the people you “hear” from think the reason they are getting stopped and ticketed for is silly doesnt mean the law they broke is silly. The law is the law and it will all be enforced accordingly. Start abiding by it or keep complaining. These “heros” will continue to do their jobs regardless of how “silly” you and your know it all friends think it is. And to Yehuda, G*D bless all the first responders. Its a team effort but, historically speaking, not many bad guys target first aiders, ems or fire. Though it has happened. Just be safe and watch eachothers backs out there. One.
