Exclusive Interview: Senior Lakewood resident Bill Hobday discusses Service, Lakewood’s growth, development and more

Bill Hobday is a true Lakewood hero. After serving our Country out of McGuire Air Force Base, Hobday, 77, moved to Howell.

It was during that time that he met his beloved late wife of 55 years, Tarissa.

The Hobdays moves to the Fairways Adult Community in 2000.

After retiring from a top executive position at McGraw Hill, Mr. Hobday decided it was time to give back. He ran for a seat on the Fairways board, and won every election he ran in. For 13 years he gave to his community, never missing a Township Meeting, a zoning board meeting or a planning board meeting. Hobday served as the liaason between the Township and the Fairways community dealing with many issues over the decades.

Hobday has become a close confidant of leading members of all the Lakewood committees and has been a voice of reason and smart leadership. As a public servant, Mr. Hobday always sought dialogue and open discussion to conflict and prides himself at the strong and loyal friendships he has made over the years.

He resigned from the Fairways board as a result of litigation filed by the board that Mr. Hobday says, “I could not agree with.” As a true leader, Mr. Hobday says that dialogue would solve the controversy. “Let’s be honest and truthful and talk to each other like two people without any animosity.”

In discussing the current plans of The Parke, Mr. Hobday describes them as “absolutely beautiful.” He says, “I think it’s going to be good for Lakewood and it’s going to be good for the Fairways.”

Since the passing of Mrs. Hobday, his home in the Fairways is much bigger than his current needs, and Mr. Hobday has put it on the market. “Otherwise, I’d love to live here forever,” he says. While Mr. Hobday will always remain a part of Lakewood, he will be missed.

In this exclusive interview, Mr. Hobday discusses his time serving on the Fairways’ board, his interaction with local officials on key issues, and his favorite kosher food! He shares his vision for the future of our town and his take on some local current issues.

  1. interesting, My in-laws are looking into moving here and are trying to understand why fairways is 25-40% cheaper than enclave for the same size unit would anyone here able to help?

    • Sure, I will. Since the residents of Fairways have started litigation against those that deceived the residents, no one wants to buy. Home prices have drastically fallen, and there are those that want out. It’s not bias, not religion….it’s keeping a way of life that had been promised.

      • Prices are the same as when I moved in 3 years ago. People are still moving in. Janice, please stop with the negative talk. How does it help those living at The Fairways.

        • Sorry…you must be kidding! I moved into Fairways less than 5 years ago. My House model was sold recently for $55,000 less than I paid…..and I got a good deal according to the realtor. It’s not negative talk, it’s REALITY!

  2. To Chaim

The reason the Enclave is more expensive is the same reason that all yidishe neighborhoods are more expensive than similar neighborhoods . We are our own worst enemies. As soon as a community becomes halfway or mostly frum, the prices go up more than they should because the frum people are outbidding each other. Enclave is almost mostly frum whike Fairways is not .

  3. Association fees at The Fairways are very reasonable. Please do not post a lie. And yes, the neighborhood of The Fairways is not Frum.

  4. To moshe x. I know personally in enclave it has to do with r.e. agents telling homeowners they can be getting more….nebach..in bp 40 yrs ago was same unscrupulous behaviors

  5. To Pinky.

Since the only people buying are from our oilom , then it’s the buyers fault for overpaying. As I said ,we are our own enemies in trying to outbid one another .
