As first reported on TLS, at approximately 4:04 AM this morning, the Lakewood Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 70 Sanztown Road. First-arriving units were on scene in under eight minutes and immediately initiated an aggressive fire attack that helped contain the blaze and prevent further spread.
The fire, which ultimately escalated to a second alarm, brought approximately 45 firefighters and support personnel to the scene. Fire damage was significant but confined to one residence, while the attached neighboring home sustained water damage. No injuries were reported.
This incident occurred in one of Lakewood’s most densely populated neighborhoods, where homes are either attached or closely spaced. The potential for rapid fire spread was high, but due to swift action by emergency personnel, a greater tragedy was averted.
The Lakewood Fire Department extends its sincere thanks to the Lakewood Police Department Communications Division, whose prompt recognition of the severity of the situation—based on available information—led to the fire being dispatched as a working fire immediately. This critical decision significantly increased the initial manpower response and contributed to the successful containment of the fire.
The Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
Lakewood Fire Chief Jonathan Yahr praised the overall response, stating:
“The quick arrival and coordinated teamwork of our firefighters, combined with the decisive action by our dispatchers, made all the difference in stopping this fire from spreading. This was a high-risk area, and everyone did their part flawlessly.”
The Lakewood Fire Department also acknowledges and appreciates the support of all mutual aid partners, support personnel, and the Lakewood Police Department for their continued collaboration in protecting the community.

Kudos to Y’all!
8 minutes is an awfully long time. To boast about it is nuts!!!
Let’s see you gather 4 people get them out of bed, dressed and take a 20 ton truck and drive the same distance in less time. If you dont have anything smart to say dont say it.
really sam…
Thank you very much to the LFD for once again doing a great job!
