Evergreen announces Schlissel Challah contest: Nicest Challah will win a Kitchenaid Mixer!

Pesach is an amazing Yom Tov when we celebrate the zamn charosenu, in ruchnies and gashmius, and we fulfil the wonderful mitzvah of matza. We all know how great that first bite of delicious crunchy matza is, but after seven days, we are certainly excited to go back to chametz. And nothing represents post Pesach chametz better than the smell of fresh baked delicious challah permeating through a Jewish house le kavod Shabbos.

There’s an old minhag to bake schlissel challah the Shabbos after Pesach as a segula for parnassah. Whether it works or not is beyond the scope of this article but what we do know is that it’s delicious and we all look forward to it – just remember to remove the key before biting into the delicious fluff. Evergreen is the best place to get the ingredients for your shlissel challah, because they believe that ingredients matter and make all the difference in your baking experience and result. Evergreen is always ready with fresh yeast, flour, eggs and everything you need to make the most scrumptious shlissel challah ever. So whether you put a real key in your challah, a fake key in your challah, or even if you just make your challah in the shape of a key, we want to see your schlissel challah.

Send us a photo of your shlissel challah! The nicest challah will be chosen by our judges and the winner of the nicest shlissel challah will win a Kitchenaid mixer to help make your challah even better in the future. Email your delicious submissions to [email protected] and good luck.

PS: Anyone who wants to bring their challah in for tasting is welcome, but it will be judged on looks only. We’re sure it’s delicious.

  1. You cant make challah with a kitchenaid. Actually the kitchenaid warranty is void if u make bread with it. It’s like having a salad contest and the prize is a frying pan!!! They should be giving a bosch!!!

  2. I make the most delicious challah with my kitchen aid for the past 18 years of marriage bh. My mother is doing the same for more than that.

  3. Uneducated, you must be making small amounts at a time which sounds weird for someone married 18 years. I broke my kitchen aid after 2 years and when I called company they said not made for bread.
Also how do u fit 5 pounds in the bowl?
Perhaps u have the professional 7 quart one which evergreen is not giving!

  4. There are diff size bowls and different strength motors. Personally I only have the 5qt (same one for 18 years!!, but if I would buy new I’d upgrade and stay with kitchen aid brand …had a magic mill gave it away) and I make 6lb bag …so i just halve my recipe and make it twice in a row so not a big deal I’m used to it. Giveaways are giveaways …if this make and model doesn’t work for you, so be it. Nothing is coming to us. When you go to a Chinese auction you only put in for what you want, and that you pay for. This is a freebee, if it doesn’t appeal to you don’t try for it…but come on..and No I don’t submit. My challah came out decent but not a winner, saw this contest after the fact. I
