  1. Wow that’s so nice. I’m impressed. There are so many people in lakewood who need help with errands and this will mostly certainly help to relieve people of some stress during their busy schedules. I will absolutely have this service in mind if there’s anything I need. Thank you so much for posting a very much needed chesed. hatzlacha rabbah.

  2. Long overdue! Great idea. This will help people in the crunch. I’ve been on jobs which required a run to home depot in middle- Nice. Prices? Tizku L’Mitzvot.

  3. Bob #5 absolutely right! this is misadvertisement and trying to give off a certain feeling about this that is simply incorrect. its a nice business idea but he should be ashamed of himself trying to trick the people.

  4. HEY SLOW DOWN-
Now, Rabayim get paid for teaching Torah? I think it says Talmud Torah K’Neged K’ulom. How dare they charge? So R’ Moshe says for their time- because one is not allowed to charge for teaching Torah. Doing something for someone is a Mitzvah too- and if a fellow wants to charge for his time- he still gets his Mitzvah.
I think too many peolpe just jump all over a good thing for no reason. I for one admire a good natured person willing to do for the masses and earn his own way instead of others who……..

  5. Every job has the potential for chesed. If you run a restaurant you could do Hachnosas Orchim and if you work in a hospital you can do Bikur Cholim. In this job, I am sure that besides for the money, the kinder people will go out of their way to assist when needed above and beyond and they will in fact be doing chesed.

  6. #5 is right. There is nothing wrong in wanting to charge for a service, and clearly the goal here is to make money as such it has nothing to do with chesed and so I really think its very wrong to associate the word chesed with your service……. unless you are an affiliate of chesed car service.

  7. Even if someone is charging a fee for a service to help you, it is still considered a chessed. If you dont like it, dont use it.

I work at a job and i do plenty of chessed but i do get paid for it. Does that mean i dont get schar for the chessed i do on the job? no.

  8. when you help someone its chesed. when you provide a service for a fee its business. its that simple. lets not confuse ourselves. and lets not engage in false advertisement.

  9. If someone is making a simcha, and the caterer gives him a 25% discount because he can’t afford it, is that not chesed even though he still might be making money?
If someone gives someone a ride 200 miles away, and asks him to chip in for gas, is that not a chesed even though he’s asking for money?
If someone doesn’t have the time to do errands and someone offers to do it for a minimal fee, so it can cover gas, wear and tear on the car, and some pocket money, is that not chesed?
Here’s the thing, if he wouldn’t charge, do you realize how many people would be using him, possibly taking advantage of him? By him charging, he is doing the biggest chesed to the people who actually need him. They have a trustworthy person, a yid, who they can rely on to do shopping, errands etc. A major chesed indeed. The biggest chesed he’s doing, is for the community themselves, telling them that not everything in life comes for free, not every service can just be taken advantage of, and taken for granted. Trust me, he’s not becoming a millionaire from this, and what’s wrong with a little chesed in return, I do an errand for you, and you help me support my family. Kol Hakovod to this individual, and to the major chesed he is doing for those who need this service desperately.

  10. when u get a discount at the store for being in kollel it is a chesed. when u give some thing ito free bay its a chesed. a not for profit org . does mean its a chesed even though money is being exchanged . when someone donates a place to use for internet purposes and charges it is still a chesed . not sure what the issues are .

  11. You are so wrong. If you charge someone it is NOT a chesed. If you work for Chai Lifeline and get paid a full salary for what you are doing like the going rate for a secretary so you have a job which does nice things but are you a baal chesed?? NO WAY unless you are underpaid or can easily get a job elsewhere and don’t in order to help people then you are doing a chesed

  12. Anyone know if the NPGS stores are considered chesed stores, after all they are a Non Profit Grocery Store, but it would be hard to imagine they are not making profit and loads of it.

  13. I so wish I knew abt this service when i was stuck home last week with a new baby and couldnt get to the pharmacy to pick up a medicine and had my baby screaming!

  14. And by the way…. there are different levelsof chessed… so instead of fighting abt it just be makir that this is definitely a level of chesed as is the shabbos taxi service and many other services tht charge minimal fees!

  15. What happened to good neighbours/friends pitching in at a busy time like the good old days?
I’m wondering how you determine a price for each service…after all there’s no market price.

  16. This is from a return email from my questions to: [email protected]

Thank you for your solid points. Well taken. I can assure you that our drivers would do a Chesed for anybody at any time. They have signed up to assist through this service and understand that they are working below standard market price, however need to cover expenses.

Errands for you factors in four main categories in regard to pricing.
    1. Trip distance mileage / distance time
    2. Time of call / of day.
    3. Type of errand. (The more of a need / less of a comfort / lower the fee) 4. Labor involved.

We also do errands by the hour which can run between $15 an hour or above, depending on errand type.

Of course each errand is unique to itself.

    Thank you,
    Yoni

  17. If I was a psychologist and charged $300 per session but only charged bnei torah $250 then I would be doing a chesed. However, I would still be running a regular for profit service and would not get a piece on the Lakewood Scoop. Why is this different?
