Across the Jewish world, few words carry the prestige, power and impact of ‘Reb Shaya Ben R’ Moshe,’ and the little town he made world-famous: Kerestir.
From the staggering chesed he pioneered to the wondrous yeshuos that brought comfort and salvation to so many Yidden, the tzaddik’s influence continues to reverberate today, nearly a century after his passing.
Among the many stories repeated and handed down to this day are the legendary feats of chesed that Reb Shayeleh performed at his home in the quaint village of Bodrogkeresztúr. Many thousands of Yidden were fed and cared for with mind-boggling devotion over the five decades that he lived in that space.
But Reb Shayeleh did not want this chesed to end. So he wrote in his tzava’ah that those who will continue with these efforts after his passing, ‘will see yeshuos as they have until now!’
This task and responsibility has been accepted by his grandchildren who have not only kept his home open to passersby but have expanded to provide hundreds of daily visitors with food and drink, a place to sleep and a beautiful mikvah; operate the tziyon all-year round and during the yahrtzeit for those who wish to come daven there; and help ensure the Kerestir remains a center of yeshuos for Klal Yisroel.
365 days a year these efforts continue, without interruption. Dozens of staff members work ‘round the clock to power this mission. This commitment costs millions of dollars annually, with the yahrtzeit costs being an added burden that bears little income.
Today, Reb Shayeleh’s House and its loyal operators are at a deficit of over $2,000,000. To ensure that the final wish of Reb Shayeleh is executed right demands the urgent support of Yidden around the globe — there is no other way.
It’s a guarantee we cannot afford to pass up!
