EMS squads statewide were instructed to be extra alert of their surroundings when responding to calls, after threats of retaliation for the killing of accused cop-killer Lawrence Campbell.
Campbell was killed after Jersey City Police Officer Melvin Santiago was ambushed on Sunday as he responded to an armed robbery call, and was met with gunfire. Officers returned fire, killing Lawrence Campbell.
Following the murder, police were warned of retaliation, and have since been on heightened alert. Since then, EMS has also told its members statewide to use caution when responding to calls.
“Based on recent events in Jersey City, NJ this past week, all EMS responders are advised to maintain a heightened level of awareness when responding to emergency calls in their respective areas,” NJ OEMS said on Friday. “All EMS agencies should be in communication with their local police departments and inform them of any unusual activity or concerns.”

Please LPD and Lakewood EMS and Lakewood fire be safe and stay alert. That man ambushed an officer and open fired on responders what did the family, friends, and fellow gang members expect? HELLO!!!! He was going to get shot! His wife is crazy to say if he knew what they were going to do he should have killed more cops. What did she expect to happen after he shot an officer and open fired again? I know I am horrible for even thinking this, but I hope when she needs a co, EMS, or fire they go really really slow to her address.
