By: Shimmy Blum. The Lakewood region was jolted by the tragic news earlier today of the death of 2-year-old Jayden Marquez in the Woodlake Manor neighborhood of Lakewood.
Jayden died as a result of injuries he sustained when run over by a car driven by a close relative. The gut-wrenching incident reportedly took place in front of the eyes of the toddler’s mother, in front of her home.
After municipal and county officials responded to the scene of the accident, the Lakewood Police Department reached out to its Township liaison, Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein. Committeeman Lichtenstein immediately visited the hospital and reached out to the pastor of the Marquez family’s church, St. Anthony Claret Church in Lakewood, who offered the family much needed bereavement services.
Upon the police department’s request, Committeeman Lichtenstein also reached out to the Misaskim organization, which assisted in professionally cleaning up the accident scene with respect towards the deceased and his family. [PHOTOS BELOW]
Additionally, Lakewood Mayor Menashe Miller set up an emergency GoFundMe page to help fundraise for the burial expenses and other emergency expenditures that the Marquez family is now facing.
“Our entire community is in mourning and we offer our heartfelt condolences,” says Mayor Miller. “Let us all get together and contribute financially to help this family.”

Lakewood rocks.
As much as ppl hate it they don’t know the beauty of inter-community relationships.
So heartbreaking to fathom such a tragedy, and yet so heartwarming to see a community coming together. Sending the family warmest condolences at this most tragic time.
Thanks to everyone who assisted this family. Lakewood people have kind hearts.
May the family be consoled for the horrific loss of a beautiful little boy. May he rest in peace
so so sad. are payers are with you.
So sorry for the loss. Heartbreaking
This story shines a light on the best of Lakewood…a tragic story…but illustrating the basic goodness of all our residents in coming together to do the right thing to assist this family.
Meir and Menashe – you guys are amazing! Keep up the great work you both do.
A wonderful Kiddush Hashem. Always look for ways to help others.
I am frankly disgusted and disappointed (but not surprised) that a certain news website that always has Lakewood under the “microscope” for every perceived problem, and invites numerous anti-semetic comments, has not even a mention of the gofundme campaign! And where are the comments from their “concerned” readers? No one at all (except for the scoop) bothered to use this opportunity to show how our community comes together to help those in need. The news site I am referring to rhymes with asperry bark dress… (censor that if you must). Shame on them! If their agenda was the betterment of society, they would at minimum post a link to the gofundme campaign to allow their readership to contribute. True colors shining through!
Much Condolences to the family may his name always be remembered.
At the same time much thanks to our Committeeman Meir and Mayor Menashe and our Police Department along with Misaskim team, you guys are amazing!
Maybe they saw my comment! At 6:41pm Friday, they finally put up the story on that site. Still waiting for all of those “lovers” of Lakewood to come out of the woodwork on that site…
Rosie i am so sad for the loss of Jayden! I can’t believe this is truly horrible. You are an amazing person and Jayden was always an adorable child you brought joy and light to you….may G-d give you comfort in your loss!
Thank you to each of you who helped the family in their time of grief.
