‎PHOTO: An elderly man was struck by a vehicle and severely injured this afternoon on Route 70, officials confirm to TLS.

The man, a resident of one of the area senior developments, was struck by a vehicle shortly before 2 p.m. in the area of Buckingham Drive. The victim was reportedly thrown in the air upon impact.

Emergency personnel transported the patient to Jersey Shore Medical University Center.

Lakewood’ Traffic & Safety division, CSI, the DOT and the Prosecutor’s Office were requested to the scene for the investigation.

Traffic‎ is heavily backed up Eastbound on Route 70.
