E-Bike Rider Arrested for DUI After Striking, Seriously Injuring Pedestrian in Lakewood [PHOTOS]

An electric bike rider is in custody for alleged DUI after striking a pedestrian in Lakewood a short time ago.

Shortly after midnight, police and emergency personnel responded to MLK Drive for the reports of a pedestrian struck.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel located a pedestrian with serious injuries.

It was determined that the pedestrian was struck by the electric bike rider.

The victim was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with paramedics.

The biker was given a sobriety test and taken into custody on scene.

An investigation is underway.

    • all tools need to be used sanely.
      The more potential damage the tool is capable of, the more conditions should be placed to ensure safety.

      Of course its the Bike, if he didnt have the bike the “irresponsible operator” would just be an irresponsible NON operator.

      It could just be that it takes 2 to tango, the “irresponsible operator” AND the bike.

  1. FYI, the DUI statute applies only to motor vehicles and not to most bikes. Although anyone can be charged with disorderly conduct or even manslaughter.
