A woman is in custody after nearly running over two cops while drunk behind the wheel, TLS has learned. The incident occurred in front of the entrance of the Blue Claws Stadium, while Detective Sergeant William Rodriguez and Sergeant William Clarke were out with a traffic detail, Detective Sergeant William Rodriguez tells TLS.
The officers were putting out the traffic cones on the road when a woman driving at a high rate of speed was headed straight towards the cops.
Rodriguez, noticing the vehicle approaching, yelled at Clarke to drop the cones and quickly get out of the road, Rodriguez says. As he dropped the cones, the car drove right over the cones and came to a stop.
“Why did you stop me”? the woman asked the cops, after she hit the cones and stopped on her own.
Not seeing Clarke get out of the way, Rodriguez feared he may have been run over and quickly called for backup.
“I was shaking”, Rodriguez says. “I thought he was under the car”.
Rodriguez immediately ordered the woman to place her vehicle into park, but instead she put the car in reverse.
Realizing she was drunk, and smelling the alcohol, Rodriguez ordered the woman out of the vehicle and placed her under arrest.
The woman, twice the legal alcohol limit, was charged with DWI.
Wow.
Need to get these people off the road ,thank God she did not end up killing someone
I HOPE THEY CHARGE HER WITH MORE THAN JUST A DWI. PEOPLE LIKE THAT NEED TO BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW. NEXT TIME, SHE’LL KILL SOMEONE…

Yes it would have but it would have been someplace else in this overcrowded town..there are too many people here and some of the Major roadways in this town ie Cedar Bridge Ave & New Hampshire Ave, Ocean Ave, Route 9 & Route 70 are all like raceways depending on the time of day..I think more tickets should be given out and maybe, Maybe these people will start paying attention to what is going on.
Something I don’t understand – Driving on New Hampshire going south toward the stadium – there are signs stating “Thru traffic keep left”. Why oh why do the cops keep putting their cones up to block the left lane, causing me to drive on the right hand lane even though I am going straight thru? Am I missing something or don’t they know how to read the signs?
If you paid $25,000 a year rent for the stadium you can also get police to close the roads and direct traffic for you.
just remember that drinking and driving after havdalah can get you into major trouble if you consumed an average size becher of wine
hey old timer its called a traffic detail. the officers need to change the traffic flow for their safety and the safety of the public. just slow down and follow the officers instructions next time.

how can i get cops to direct traffic for me at my shul when we have a event for free alah Blueclaws? also maybee the township wants to build me a muti milion dolar shul and rent it to me for $25,000 a year includeing maintnance and police to direct traffic, fire dept to come for free when we do fireworks ect. it will bring more people to lakewood to spend money in this town i promise and if the township wants to use it i can rent it to them so it benefits everyone.
The blueclaws pays for these cops and fireworks and all you are missing the point, cops were almost killed because a drunk driver (that being the real issue) almost ran them down. If she kept driving she could have run down anyone further up the road. Thank goodness she did not hurt anyone including our brave cops!
Lakewood police are the best in directing traffic before & after Blueclaws games. There is absolutely no delay in getting in or out. I am a season ticket holder and these people who risk their lives protecting us are “super people:. That drunk lady should have her license taken away forever risking not only a policeman but you & I.
