Driver Killed in Howell Accident

The Howell Township Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident.

At approximately 10:28AM today, Howell Township Police officers responded to the area of State Highway 33 by West Renaissance Blvd.

Initial investigation yielded that a 2023 Mazda CX-5 was being operated by a 54 year old female resident of Ontario, Canada and was traveling West bound on State Highway 33. The operator of the Mazda CX-5 was negotiating a curve in the road when her vehicle crossed the centerline for an unknown reason and collided with a concrete mixer truck which was traveling East on State Highway 33. This head-on/angular type collision caused significant disabling damage to both vehicles.

Subsequent to the crash, the operator of the Mazda CX-5 became trapped in the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. The operator of the Mazda CX-5 was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and
the passenger of the concrete mixer truck sustained minor injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

In addition to the Howell Township Police Department, the following entities responded to this scene Howell Police EMS, Howell First Aid, Atlantic Health Paramedics, Adelphia Fire Co., Squankum Fire Co., NWS Earle Fire Dept., Howell Fire Bureau, New Jersey Department of Transportation, and Certified Auto Mall.

This incident remains under investigation by the Howell Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit. Any witnesses to the crash are requested to contact Ptl. Daniel Scherbinski of the Howell Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit at 732-938-4575, ext. 2663.
