Driver flees scene after striking Lakewood police officer’s vehicle during traffic stop

Police this evening are looking for a driver who struck a Lakewood police officer’s patrol car during a a traffic stop and then fled the scene, police told TLS.

After pulling over a vehicle on Route 9 just North of Chestnut Street, Officer Pederson got out of his vehicle to speak with the driver, when a vehicle suddenly struck Officer Pederson’s patrol car. The driver then continued driving.

Luckily, the officer was not injured.

Situations such as this one are what prompted the passing of the Move Over Law in 2009.

Debris was left at the scene, and police are working to track down the suspect.

  1. I’m sure the consequences are worse when fleeing from police than waiting for the police to see your credentials. It’s insane how people think they can run away and get away with it. (Even if he’s a wanted criminal or doesn’t have a proper driver’s license or even drugs in the car.)
