VIDEO: Driver Hospitalized after being Extricated from Overturned Truck on Route 9

ot rt 9 2VIDEO: A driver needed to be extricated from his truck after it overturned on Route 9 during rush hour traffic this evening.

The crash occurred at the intersection of 15th Street at about 5:30 PM.

The box truck was reportedly driving southbound on Route 9 when it swerved in an attempt to avoid a school bus entering Route 9. The truck clipped the bus, and flipped over, landing on its side, a witness told TLS.

Lakewood First Aid and Hatzolah extricated the driver by cutting open the windshield.

The man was transported by EMS to KMC with non life-threatening injuries.

  1. What makes you think it was the school bus ?
I saw this morning a delivery truck cut off the ongoing traffic to make a left earlier, there was no school bus in sight !
These delivery trucks have to learn that they do NOT own the roads !!!

  2. First the article says the bus was entering route 9 and apparently didnt take into account the oncoming traffic when they (the school bus) pulled out in traffic..I see it all the time. The busses pull into traffic to keep on schedule but dont yield to the traffic..they just pull out sometimes. You are supposed to stop at the stop sign or traffic light right?? Well I have seen them and even almost wrecked my truck avoiding them and they just keep on going ..Its sad actually, and they are the ones transporting your kids to and from schools

  3. if you don’t think school busses think they rule the road, you don’t live in Lakewood! Its unsafe and pathetic, and everyone knows it!

  4. Yup. I agree. I was almost hit by them many times also. Im on the road all day. Its a daily occurrence. So sad. There has to be a better way. Some enforcement.

  5. One day I was driving down 7th street towards Rr. 9 a school bus did not stop at a stop sign and made a left turn. I thank God I was over cautious and was stopped at my stop sign or there would have been a major accident. The bus was transporting students to a private school. God was definitely watching over his children!

  6. You can clearly see by the picture that it is the bus that’s is at fault here ! Intersection is a stop sign and bus is still half way through it with the skid marks from heating and cooling truck are clear in the picture also .. the damage to the passenger side shows he was going south on 9 so all you bus supporters the bus is clearly wrong ..

  7. I am investing in a high quality dash cam and I will be watching for busses jumping stop signs. Bus drivers BEWARE. YOU ARE BEING WATCHED!
This town is out of control with too many drivers jumping stop signs.
My ruv paskened that a driver jumping a stop sign or does not yeild, is a RODEF. I will be going to the DOE and police with the footage ,bli nader. Our children and pedestrians are not hefker . Genug shoin.

  8. School bus drivers are horrible in Lakewood. I was on Hope Chapel Rd this afternoon near the lake and one pulled out directly in front of me. If I was not doing the speed limit I would have been killed by it hitting me in the drivers side door. Everyone needs to realize a few minutes late could save a life.

  9. How about when the buses stop to let in another bus, they can hold up traffic for who knows how long cuz they are waiting for an entire line of cars to get thru so the bus that is down the road will be able to get in without waiting :-!

  10. for anon2, if you had simple common sense you can clearly see route 9 has no stop signs and the bus was on a side road with a stop sign (which is clear in the picture). He was trying to enter route 9 and simply decided to ignore the stop sign. If you look at the pic you can see that the bus t-boned the box truck on the rear axial (rear tire). Poor guy got injured from an aggressive bus drive that hopefully did not have children on the bus.

  11. How do we know who was at fault if we weren’t there? The school bus could have stopped dead because the truck tried to beat the light on County Line and was speeding. The truck driver could have been on the phone. Or it was as you said and the bus was at fault. However, all we can do is speculate because we weren’t there. And, why did the truck overturn if it only clipped the bus?
There are way too many impatient drivers on the roads. Everyone is in a big hurry and more concerned about themselves than with being courteous to others on the road.

  12. A bus ran a stop sign last year & totaled my car
I still have injuries from it !!
Pd needs to check THIER licenses & give them training at least 1-2 times per year

  13. My son was on the bus. B”H no one was injured. A boy yelled out, “Watch Out!”, but it was too late. It doesn’t mean this bus driver is always negligent, but in this case, she was. Buses make wide turns. It’s possible she thought she can turn in to the right lane only. She claimed she stopped and looked.
