An accident in Toms River last night has left one dead and one seriously injured.

At approximately 8:52 PM, police and medical units responded to Washington Street and Clifton Avenue for a single vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, they found that a 2006 Mini Cooper had struck a tree causing extensive damage.

The driver was already deceased upon police arrival, and the passenger had multiple injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

“The vehicle, which was traveling eastbound, was not being operated by the registered owner and we have not yet made contact with the driver’s family,” TRPD said today.

The crash investigation is being conducted by Toms River Traffic Officers Mark Nater and David Bartoshek.
