[VIDEO INTERVIEW] Dr. Shanik, Lakewood’s world renowned Doctor, is perhaps mostly know n for his expertise in the medical field and his passion and devotion in helping thousands of children, morning and night, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. What’s less known to the general population in Lakewood, is Dr. & Mrs. Shanik’s Tzedakah fund which they have been single handedly running for the past 25 years.
Aniyei Ircha, a project of Ahavas Tzedakah, which now assists hundreds of needy families with food and clothing, has grown to an annual budget of over $600,000 Dr. Shanik tells TLS, and is becoming too difficult for him and his wife to manage on their own.
So for the first time, Dr. Shanik has reached out to the community in hopes of raising the necessary funds enabling him to continue supporting his project.
Tonight, July 12, an event will be held in the parking lot of Dr. Shanik’s office, 4th and Madison Avenue, at 7:30 PM.
All are asked to make use of the neighborhing public parking lots, such as Bagel Nosh.

It’s difficult to say that his philanthropy is less known then his medical expertise. Who can miss all those calls for Tzdaka with his number listed as the number to call?! That man and his wife are true Tzadikim! There should be more like them in Klol Yisroel!
People do not know the fraction of what they do for the town. These people are gems.
Dr. & Mrs. Shanik are very special people Hashem should give them all what they need. We should all make a effort to show up and help them as much as one can give.
I love the way that he says “me and my wife collect”. In reality, 90% of the money is coming from the Doctor’s own pocket but he is such a tzadik, he doesn’t want to say that publicly.

It is very beautiful that the Dr. Shanik has chosen to invest their chesed back into those who support them in his extensive practice.

They are truly tzaddikim for what they do. (And Colleen their faithful assistant is without a doubt one of the tzaddikei umos ha’olam.) The Shaniks give of themselves tirelessly on behalf of the klal 24/7/365. They don’t know the meaning of the word “no”. The matzav must be extremely critical for them to make an appeal like this. Please help them help others.

I have been doing research on the internet over the past several days trying to understand what positive contributions Hasidic people make to everyone in their communities. This is the first article I have read where I see someone actually making a contribution and I think it is wonderful. While I understand wanting to help your own kind, I hope that Dr. and Mrs. Shanik are able to bless even the neediest of non Jews. Also I have been trying to find information about Hasidics trying to create a stronger economic base for their own family and cannot find it. This way the Shaniks would not be so burdened. I sincerely hope that they are able to help truly needy people that have no options open to them.
Lisa Edwards, instead of spending time in wondering what good “Hasidics” do, find out what “Hasidics” are. The Shaniks are not Hasidic and your time would be better spent trying to do your own good and let us “Hasidics” worry about the good we do.
Lisa Edwards, the philanthropy of the Jews between themsleves and to the population at large is every widely known. You would not need to spend days researching the topic on the web. The concept of mutual aid, assistance to the needy, free medical care etc are hallmarks of the Jewish people the world over. Just look at the names of the major hospitals in NYC and Los Angeles – Maimonides, Beth Israel, Cedars -Sinai. These are all hospitals funded from Jewish philanthropy and serving the public.
I have given money to them for a few years now knowing the money goes to people in our community & every penny raised is given out.DR. Shanik is there for you be there for him
Everyone should give whatever they can every few dollars helps. look at it as if you were going to give shalach manos to dr. shanik and doing this instead. they will appreciate it very much!

If you are looking for the good the Hasidic community does or any accurate type of picture of that community the internet is really the wrong place to do it.It would be impossible for an outsider (or insider) to get an accurate picture of the Orthodox community from the internet particularly when the more stellar members of that community don’t use it for recreational purposes.
