TLS spoke with the offices of Dr. Shanik’s Pediatric Affiliates this morning in regards to the recent FDA ban on Materna baby formula, first reported Motzei Shabbos. According to the FDA, the ban was put in place after a mislabeled shipment made its way to the US. However, Dr. Shanik is telling parents to avoid using even prior shipments of the popular baby formula until more information regarding the ban is available.
New stock of the formula has not been available in Lakewood stores since last week, when the shipment from Israel was stopped. TLS.
Does anyone know if I can get a refund for a newly opened can? I returned my unopened cans to the store where I bought them, but they didn’t want to take the opened one.

this is a bunch of bogus. the materna is in customs because of a label that was missing for custom purposes. everything is perfectly fine with materna. It will be availabel shortly.
I will not subject my child to this formula until it’s o.k and if there are people waiting to buy the returned ones will let them buy it
i know what the issue with materna is. it is only a label problam the product is parfactly fine just not aprrovd by the fda becuz
im aware of this issue and its quite simple the reason ther no FDA approved is because they do not have an english label
How can you possibly strongly assert something you can not possibly know? Do you work for the docks or the FDA? It is fine for the distributor to issue such a statement, but if you are not the distributor how can you take responsibility for the health and well being of so many children. There is no reason for you to argue against Dr. Shanik’s advice. At least he is responsible.

Hi all as of now there is NOTHING wrong with Materna formula. I use Materna for all my kids and its the best and safest Kosher formula in the market. I’m usually place my orders at this site as they have the best price and claim to be the exclusive distributor to the USA. They have now a note on their site stating that its “temporarily not available”. I’ve contacted them and they told me there are NO known safety issue with any of their products at this time. I’ve been ordering and getting my info from this site over 3 years never had a problem of getting false info and they provided me with great service and prices.
Dr. Shanik might be a good doctor but looks to me that she doesn’t have the right info regarding this issue.
I dont know if you all realize but the grammar and language on all of the defense for materna is way off and consistent with a hebrew translation. Materna is an israeli company. enough said….
I spoke with a different, very reputable pediatrician from Lakewood who said that he looked into it and it seems that there is just a mis-labeling issue nothing wrong with it. There is nothing of note on the FDA’s website.
That’s very funny. I wrote a comment on the horrible spelling and grammer of the commentors, and when I hit submit, the site said “slow down, you’re submitting your comment too fast!”
there is nothing wrong with materna- i used it till now and i will continue using it as long as my supply will last- (have plenty) anyone has extras ill b glad to buy it off- ill take the opened ones too- lol! my baby is thriving beatifuly on it!
