DPW: Potholes Are a Constant Battle

Despite filling dozens of potholes around town, the Department of Public Works says it’s a constant uphill battle. DPW Director Al Burdge and Supervisor Toni Arrechi tell TLS they have crews out constantly filling potholes all around town, but the cold patches applied do come out quite fast.

The only solution filling the holes with hot patches, which can only be utilized when the weather warms up.

The list of potholes submitted by readers was given in to the DPW, and they are going through the list to try and fix the potholes to best of their ability.

  1. Every year its the same article. The cold patches come out so we have to wait for the warmer weather to put in the hot patches.

But then comes warm weather and the DPW does absolutely nothing. The same recurring cycle every year!

  2. I hope E. 8th street and E. End is on that list! Just drove down that block and hit more pot holes than smooth road! Talk about a bumpy ride!

  3. the way they repair potholes is a joke – you would think you’re in a thirld world country if you watch them – they drop a shovelful of asphalt in the ‘hole’ and then back up their trucks and go over it a few times – it’s hysterical and pathetic!!! Courtney road between Rt 9 & Clifton is awful but so are many other streets

  4. Last year they said the same thing, yet I did not see any DPW emplyees fixing potholes this past summer.

I moved to Lakewood about 4 years ago and the potholes are there from when I moved in.

  5. What’s crazy is clifton ave between 88 and 5th its like going on a roller coaster and that is the main road going through what the township wants to revitalize, I never go down clifton bc of that and therefor never ever shop there.

  6. Lakewood DPW does a great job, thanks. What is a joke are these uninformed comments. Cold Patch which is all that can be used this time of year is a temporary fix. “Every year it is the same”, welcome to NJ.”how about paving over the streets every few years?”, then we can complain about increasing taxes.

  7. Why does chesterfield commons get absolutely no attention. The development is 100% full for a while now yet there is not even on going talks about paving the streets. Cars driving through chesterfield are at a constant risk if damage. I appreciate that there are complications as to why it has not been paved but it had been over three years now and the residents of chesterfield commons deserve better.
Thank you tls for giving me a forum to vent my frustration. There are many good people in this town who can make things happen. I am counting on them to finally realize the unfairness to the chesterfield residents and we will finally have paved streets.

  8. This is great maybe the potty’s should only get fixed after Pesach so we can have bumpy rides on chol hamoed and use them to burn chomtez.

  9. It is always easy to point fingers at others! The perfect world has not yet been offered in Lakewood!

Thank you DPW for always taking the brunt of the blame for others.

  10. I agree with Brian.
When are ya’all gonna stop kvetching.
I was driving yesterday and was rather pleased to notice just how many holes got filled.
    What great service DPW.
We post comments on a blog and a week later the holes are filled.
    I love Lakewood.
    Gd bless Lakewood Township.
