The cold outdoor temperatures haven’t stopped the Department of Public Works employees from filling potholes around town. A spokesman for the DPW tells TLS the department has a crew out on a daily basis fixing the holes, but it’s a never ending process. “It’s a constant battle”, the DPW spokesperson says. With the current weather pattern, “Even if we fill a hole, a few days later we got another one”, he says.
He explained that when the water enters the roads, it would typically remain frozen at this time of year, until Spring. But temperatures are expected to rise again this week, causing the ice to thaw, and the water to break up the roads again. A process which usually occurs in the Spring.
Up until a few days ago when the weather remained in the 50 degree range, the crews were filling the holes with ‘hot patches’. However, with the current cold temperature in place, the holes are being filled with ‘cold patches’, which don’t last as long. As the weather improves, the crew is expected to resume using ‘hot patches’.
The DPW spokesman added, that residents can call in to the Public Works to report a pothole, at 732-905-3405. TLS.
Although I understand the issue, the potholes in my neighborhood have not been filled since winter 2010. Chestnut St from Rt 9 is just plain outright horrible for as long as I can remember! If someone can advocate (maybe TLS) for us at the DPW, it would be greatly appreciated.
Please patch potholes on Country Club Drive. There are many many potholes on the street. I call DPW all the time and they do respond. However they don”t patch them correctly, and within a few days of rain they open right back up. Thank you in advance for fixing my street.
Unfortunately just patching the holes with either hot patches or cold patches they don’t last the only way to fix it for more then a 1 year time period would be to repave most of the roads around the town.. Unfortunately that can not be done as it cost too much money but the hot patches fall apart within a few months and the cold patches fall apart with in days
John Franklin could probably solve this problem
Please east 5th St
Just Drive and see.
they should make developers that tear up the street repave them afterwards instead of just filling them in

#1 & #7, those are county roads, not township. chestnut has no “holes”, just bumps. same situation as c’ line. streets could be paved in lkw but work would have to start at 10 am and stop at 2 pm each day to accomadate the school busses. night work would require paying overtime or the job must be contracted out. all of which the county is not willing to pay for. thats my understanding of the problem.
Chestnut is a county road call them
County Line Road is also a County road.
7th st. before sumerset ave. feels like driving on a flat tire like 10 potholes
#7 it wont be done until they finish buildinh all those homes over there first
The entire ridge ave from seventh to fourth and park the bumps are disasters and havent been fixed for ages
Just blame the next agency
just repave all of lakewood even the trees. PAVE IT ALL HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
It won’t do any good to pave all of Lakewood, the builders will just dig it back up to put in the utilities for the new housing.
