DPW Employee Suspended After Using Township Truck To Settle Private Dispute During Business Hours

A Township Public Worker was suspended after using a Township vehicle when he got involved in an employee-worker dispute, officials confirmed to TLS. Police and other Township officials say during business hours the worker in a Public Works truck drove over to a private home in an attempt to settle a dispute involving a friend.

Police say the friend was contracted out for work by a local employee, but when things turned ugly, the DPW employee decided to get involved and to assist his friend.

After a Police report was filed by the employer’s wife, officials noted that the Public Works Employee acted inappropriately when he used the Township truck – during business hours – for his private use. He was subsequently suspended.

“Action was swiftly taken and the employee was suspended”, an official who wished to remain anonymous tells TLS. The official says the employee could get fired over the incident.

Officials say the employer-employee dispute is under investigation, and that the DPW Union and Township officials are in arbitration in hopes of settling the matter with the DPW employee. TLS.

  1. When a person hires someone that does not speak the language and then does not pay the person for services rendered that’s bad .When someone that speak both languages trys to help (that could be a good thing) but when that person uses their employers vehicle and time that is wrong also. To the person who did not pay “Shame on you” to the perrson who used the Township vehicle and was on Township time “shame on you”. Helping someone is a good thing but do it on your own time! Don’t be short sighted and put you job in jepordy and that of your family. Moral of the story, pay for services rendered and if you want to help a person get the money for doing a job..do it the legal way.

  2. Th eproblem with TWP employees is that they think they are equal to Police officers and are the LAW…..Common sense must be used and knowing ones place. If the TWP employee asked his superior for a special request to go with a TWP vehicle than the Superior should be suspended (not the employee) as this was not a “life and//or death situation”.

Remember the Inspector who blocked a school bus????

  3. Why are township employess allowed to use the vehicles after working hours? Who pays for the gas? I was in (moderated) and saw a Lakewood township pick-up parked there over the weekend. Why is that allowed?

  4. please do not group all township employees together. a majority of the employees love the town, their jobs and the people they help service. to say that “Th eproblem with TWP employees is that they think they are equal to Police officers and are the LAW” is a small-minded comment and hurtful to employees that do care. grow up.
