PHOTOS: This past Motzei Shabbos, dozens of Rabbonim from around town gathered at the Tomchei Shabbos warehouse in support of Tomchei Shabbos ahead of the upcoming dinner. Tomchei Shabbos distributes food to hundreds of families weekly, and has an annual budget of close to $2,000,000.
The annual dinner will be held on Sunday, January 23rd at Bais Faiga. [It was requested that TLS not post the photos until today].
where do you get the 2 mill from and who??????????
The mitzvah of supporting aniyim has been around for thousands of years and is always important . Especially in today’s economy where it takes on an added urgency .
Like it makes a difference? O.K its 1.8 million bucks a year. Just give them your tithes and stop asking so many questions.
#1 obviously many people feel its more important to give , generously , I might add, than to comment. A small family spends at least a few thousand a year on groceries , they should be able to spare a few hundred to help those that can’t .
Who else besides “Mi Keamcha Yisroel ” I guess some have their priorities straight.
B”H there are allot of people who have their priorities straight (like #4 said) and realize the hard work that Rabbi Trainer and the rest of the people involved in providing the basic necessities for peoplewho are in need especially in this economy that we live in, their are plenty of people that used to be on the giving end and know are on the receiving end and the least we could do is by giving a very large amount to TS to help them out, I’m sure that they are struggling with raising funds in this economy so I tip my hat to Rabbi Trainer for his dedicated and hard work that he does day and night for TS and all the people in need!
I’m trying to understand why they have such a high budget from week to week – don’t they encourage families who can’t afford food to apply for food stamps and WIC. That is more than enough to fill a families food biils on an ordinary week… As for yomim tovim that is an added expense I can hear. I also can hear if there are a few families here that are not american citizens for a sick child or the like but that is usually temporary and there arent 350 full families like that. Can someone please enlighten me to this cause.
2 million a year equals approximately $38k a week, divided by 350 family’s is a little over $100 a week per family.
i happen to be one of the families who benefit from this. I make too much for wic/food stamps but still struggle. The package I get every thursday is a life saver. Not only does it cover all my shabbos meals, it also gives me some food for some meals during the week. It is truly what is keeping my family from going hungry.
