PHOTO: Chaveirim this evening has been going from call to call dealing with severe flooding in numerous basements around town, a Chaveirim coordinator tells TLS.

Chaveirim needed to use pumps and wet vacuums to remove several inches of water from close to fifteen basements flooded from the heavy downpour today.

The best thing to do to avoid a flooded basement, is to ensure your drains are properly cleared, and to make sure your gutters are properly deflecting the water from the home, the coordinator says. Letting water gather around the foundation will not only cause flooding, but can also cause the water to seep in to the walls, which can result in mold.

The coastal flooding warning remains in effect until 8:15 AM, the National Weather Service says.

Between 3-5 inches of rain has fallen in some area, the Service says.
