Don’t Keep Your Car Title in Your Vehicle

Submitted PSA: Dear community,

I just wanted to share something I’ve noticed while working at an auto body shop that I think a lot of people aren’t aware of — and it could save you from a major headache.

I’ve seen that many people keep their vehicle title inside their car. Please, don’t do this.

Your title is your legal proof of ownership. If, G-d forbid, someone steals your car and the title is inside, they could sign the back of it and falsely claim ownership. In that situation, it becomes incredibly difficult — sometimes impossible — to get your car back.

I know it might seem convenient to keep all your car documents together, but this one absolutely needs to stay at home, in a safe place.

Take a moment today to double-check.

And when you sell or give away, or junk your car, remove and return your license plates to the DMV asap!! Someone now has to take a super lawyer, because of serious charges including abandoned vehicle and uninsured vehicle , because they didn’t return those plates!

So spot on. Just read your title. You’ll be surprised to find legal bill of sale right on it. All you have to do is sign.

Also, when you are in MVC waiting room, please cover your SSN! I our days anyone with a cellphone can take a picture of your documents without you noticing, and for some reason social security card, if you brought one for ID points, is left on top by MVC clerks.

Wow.
Like the warning on the food processor: “don’t stick your fingers in when machine is running.”

He wrote right in the article he’s seen people leave it in. Have you seen people put their finger in a running food processor? If not, stupid comment.
