Distracted Fuel Operator Leads To 200 Gallon Diesel Spill in Howell

Nearly 200 gallons of diesel fuel spilled at the Howell Public Works Department this morning after the fuel operator was distracted, Howell Police said.

According to a statement from Howell Police, Howell Township Police Communications received a call in regards to a fuel spill at the Howell Township Department of Public Works building.

Upon arrival of Emergency Services, a fuel spill containing approximately 200 gallons of diesel fuel was observed near the Township fuel pumps.

The spill was caused by an overflow of a diesel fuel as the fuel pumps were being fueled by Riggins Inc.

Police say the driver (fuel operator) was not paying attention and the diesel fuel pumps overfilled causing the spill.

The Howell OEM, Monmouth County Hazmat, Squankum and Southard Fire departments responded and contained the spill to the area of the fuel pumps.

No injuries were reported at this time.
