Did Jackson Throw Reina Under the Bus? | G. Sonnenfeld

Jackson Township has finally responded to the emergency injunction filed by Agudath Israel of America, in which it was alleged that township officials deliberately discriminated against its Orthodox Jewish residents.

A legal analyst who reviewed the Township’s legal response, noted a surprising omission: no refutation was offered to the major allegations made against Jackson Mayor Mike Reina.

This begs the question: has Jackson thrown Reina under the proverbial bus? Do Jackson lawyers feel that Reina is indefensible?

The legal analyst told TLS that the omission of any defense of Reina likely represents an admission of guilt regarding those claims. It is also possible, the analyst said, that by wholly ignoring the detailed allegations, Jackson may be engaged in damage control, hoping that the attention of the court will turn to the more substantive issues in the case, versus the improper actions of the mayor.

If this analysis is correct, it makes the silence of the Ocean County Freeholders more troubling. Reina is a county employee, and the allegations against him are serious. Sould there not be an independent investigation and perhaps a suspension? If such allegations were made regarding Reina as having discriminated against other minority groups, would he not already have been placed on leave? We stand by and hope that the County Freeholders will speak up.

An individual employed by the County who speaks or acts with seeming disdain for any demographic, and especially a minority one, is a massive stain on Ocean County as a whole. But it is an even greater stain on the Freeholders, who make many County-related decisions, and who hired Reina as a non civil service, political appointee.

It should be their responsibility to comment on these allegations. There is an entire community of Orthodox Jews in Jackson and the County who want to hear their voices.

    • for those who don’t understand RUOC-ese, allow me to translate. “Mike Reina loves us at rise up” translates to: “Reina hates Jews as much as we do here at the Facebook hate page called rise up ocean county, called out by the AG of NJ as well as many other politicians for their hateful and racist comments against Orthodox Jews”.
“loose” is just a misspelling of “lose”
“block vote” is a hateful expression, used to pit “them” against “us”, and implies that Jews all vote as one block for their own interests which are at odds with the general population.
