Verizon customers across New Jersey and around the country are reporting widespread disruptions in cellular service this afternoon, with complaints of dropped calls, inability to send texts and mobile devices showing “SOS” or “Emergency Calls Only” messages, according to user reports and outage trackers.
Crowdsourced outage tracker DownDetector showed more than 113,000 reports of Verizon service problems in the last few minutes – a dramatic surge that typically signals a major outage affecting a large region or multiple states.
In a statement, Verizon acknowledged the problem, saying: “We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and are working to identify and solve the issue quickly. We understand how important reliable connectivity is and apologize for the inconvenience.”
Verizon did not provide an estimate for when service would be fully restored. The company is directing customers to its network status tool on its website, where users can check whether outages have been confirmed in their area.

It’s a message from hashem that we should stop blabbering on the phone so much. Stop watching stupid videos and clips that waste our time and do nothing for your education. You learn nothing of value and your head is filled with the desire to go to some exotic location on vacation because of some silly video. And certainly all the wasted texts and verbal messages that we can do without. So hashem is sending us the message – go do chesed! Learn Torah! Give of your time to others! Be nice to your mom! Don’t chase kittens!
