VIDEO: As reported earlier this week, Deputy Mayor Steven Langert has dropped out of the Assembly race following the announcement of Senators Singer and Kean’s joint run for the 30th District. Thursday afternoon, Deputy Mayor Langert, together with Lakewood senior resident Hal Halverson, filed their petitions at the Township to run in the coming Republican Primaries.
Halverson, a 40 year Ocean County resident, moved to Lakewood about 6 years ago.
See video for a video statement from the incumbent and his running mate.
Currently, there are 3 republicans on the Committee. The two Democrats, are Committeeman Meir Lichtenstien and Committeeman Ray Coles, who is also running for another term.
steve has proven to be a good budget slasher who will take on powerful unions.
no shot im voting for you, how can you praise the boe members they cut services that lakewood needed and steve u know it
WHY WOULD I VOTE FOR SOMEONE WHOS NOT PROMISING TO CUT TAXES!!! HES ONLY TRYING TO KEEP IT FLAT!!
If the boe cut taxes and fire district cut taxes why cant the township cut a little taxes also?????? We want cuts WE DONT WANT A FLAT BUDGET!!! STEVE WE DESERVE MORE !!!
I’m voting for both of them! Good Luck!
Good luck Steve-may you continue on the right path. Keep up the great work!
Good luck to you Hal-you seem like a real mentch and we’re rooting for you too!
Steve
This town owes you a tremendous debt of gratitude. For years upon years all we saw was more and more spending. For the first time actual spending went down last year. If people would understand what an accomplishment that is, everyone would vote for you in a second
I don’t think he deserves our vote. He has not made significant cuts in the budget.
Steve will never get my vote again.
Let’s not forget that the boe is getting an additional 1.5 million dollars from the state this year while the township is getting nothing. I would hope that with all that additional aid that we would get at least that much in tax relief from the boe? Are we?
We need some fresh faces with fresh ideas in the township !
I don’t know where all the tax $$ is going. But it seems that Steve is really working very hard to bring tax cuts & transparency to the people. Hatzlochah , Steve – keep going !! We need you !!
Steve,
The BOE can teach you a thing or two about how to CUT taxes!
hatzlocha roba
I’m not voting for Steve either.
Steve, I’m sorry. You’re a great guy, but you don’t have my vote.
Steve, there is no shame in not running for re-election
Steve Langert deserves our vote. He was the first commitee member to seriously effect cuts of our local budget.
the one way we can cut more taxes quickly is to rethink the bussing. Lets be honest, 22 Million dollars will help all our tax bills
no one knows till u r in the here how much we could really cut. in coventry square they said look at the books u cant cut. the new board members cut it 50 percent. they cant explain why they cant cut more, they just gotta keep cutting.
The active adults that can continue to live in Lakewood must do everything in our power to help Hal Haverson win this election.
The above 50 crowd must vote for Ray and Hal if we have any self respect!!
The cutting of the fire budget was just a scam. All they did was get a bond to pay the difference. It didn’t actually cut the amount of money they used.
In addition, they have over $3M in the bank and the person who manages the budget didn’t have an answer why they needed additional “revenue”. I’m sure they’ll come up with a project that they had in the works for a long time, in order to give a reason why they couldn’t use the $3M.
Remember that the bus issue is not $22 million. The only issue is the courtesy busing issue which is very little of the $22 million so all those people who are screaming cut the busing – check the actual numbers first. FYI bussing means kissing – the correct spelling is busing.
Ray coles, has always been a true friend of the lakewood community.
keep the winning team!
Ray and Steve, don’t ever leave.
To all of you self righteous individuals going on and on about the spelling of the word “busing” using two ss “bussing” Please refer to a dictionary before you open your mouths (or in this case your keyboards) because all it does is show your ignorance. Both spellings are acceptable. If there are any doubters out there, PLeaase follow this link http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/busing
than busing. If both are acceptable in your community, so be it. In Lakewood, bussing is unacceptable.
steve has my vote he did and will do a great job for our town , since he as been in office we have had no tax increase thank you steve
Actually taxes are up 10% since langert was elected
