Déjà New, a new and gently used clothing store/G’mach in Lakewood, is running out of space at their current location. The G’mach, currently located at on Birch Street, tells TLS they are looking for a large unfinished and over 2,250 square foot basement to serve as their new location. If you have such a location for them, please call them at 732 966-0262.
Déjà New’s store is for all ladies, maternity and children clothing and is located at 66 Birch, with the entrance on the right side. (Birch is off of Route 9, one block South of James Street). Their hours are Sunday through Thursday, 9 aAM until 6:30 PM, and Friday 9 AM until 2 PM. Tuesday evenings they are open from 8:00 PM until 9:30PM. They both sell and accept clothing in good condition.
Déjà New’s collection bin is located in the parking lot of the James Street Co-op. At this location, they accept all kinds of unwearable clothing, shoes and linens, and stuffed animals.
“Absolutely all of the proceeds for this bin go to Tzedakah, which as far as we know, is a first of its kind”, Déjà New says.
Most of the clothing in their store costs between ten cents and $4 dollars for children, and $1 dollar to $5 dollars for adults. Déjà New is set up in an organized fashion and looks like a regular clothing store.
For the men’s clothing G’mach, located in the Pawnee area, please call Avital Lowenthal.
To date, Déjà New has donated $60,000 dollars to various Tzedakas from the store proceeds. Some of these Tzedakahs include: Tomchei Shabbos, Bikur Cholim, Stam G’mach, Hatzoloh and more.
“It is a revolving concept”, says Déjà New. “Those who drop off their clothing benefit those who buy them, and those who buy them, benefit the Tzedakas to which the proceeds go”.
Deja New Store is open to all. TLS.
I dont understand. This article states they accept unwearable clothing. If its unwearable, who are they selling it to and if it is unwearable, why not throw it away
Deja New is a very special organization. Keep it up.
Kol Hakavod to the Newmans who personify the saying, “When you want something done, ask a busy person.”
This is really such an amazing organization…. Many people have thought of doing it many times but this is real and its done so nicely and so organized. Hands down to a great tzedakah!
TO #1. they take unwearable clothing and sell it by weight, and they take that $ and donate it to Tomchei Shabbos!
there is a drop off for unwearable’s at the co-op on sunset.
Deja New accepts UNwearable clothing in their donation bin at NPGS James St. They accept WEARABLE women and children’s clothing at their location on Birch Street. I have personally benefitted from shopping there and it is an amazing operation. Thank you!
Unwearable clothing can be sold as bulk rags and that money can go to tzedaka
Are men allowed to go shopping at this gemach, or is it for women only?
See above. The men’s gemach is in a separate location.
I know one of the volunteers whose whole life is the gemach. She lives and breathes for the used clothing for everyone. You have to be special to do that!
I was not asking about mens clothing. Can I, as a man, shop in the birch street location for clothing for my children, thanks
Its not the first of it kind. Monsey has Kupath Ezra and has a used clothing store that accepts and sells the clothing for years. All proceds going to tzadakah.
Did the writer of this article verify whether the address of the Gmach should be posted publically on the internet?
If not I’d remove immediately.
I have a few pairs of woman’s shoes in excellent condition that I don’t wear. Does the gemach accept shoes too?
I have a big basement. Will the hours be the same as those listed above? Plz contact me at [email protected]. Hatzlocha.
TO COMMENT 14 THEY DO TAKE SHOE THANKS
