Dashcam Video: Pay Attention To 2-Way Stop Signs

VIDEO: Attached is a reader-submitted dashcam video, which shows what could have been a bad accident. The video, captured on 7th Strret Wednesday afternoon, shows a vehicle stopped at a stop sign, when the driver – possibly assuming the other direction also had a stop sign – began crossing over 7th street.

“Had I not slammed on the brakes to avoid the van just feet in front of my car, it could have resulted in a serious collision”, the dashcam-owner says.

This video and other similar ‘Caught on Camera’ videos are posted on TLS as an awareness to drivers to use more caution on the roads, and perhaps prevent serious accidents by exercising more courteous driving habits. TLS-MK.

  1. Actually, i have a dash cam too, and it’s known that the speed of the driver is actually much slower than it appears. Watch other dash cams and you will see what i mean. That said, it makes no diffference how fast the dash cam person is going, as the one at the stop sign may not enter an intersection unless it is clear. That’s the law.

  2. Making a big deal about nothing. Not the fact that he went through a stop sign but that you find it so neccesary to get all worked up about it. Its over and thank G-d you are all right and move on – you not gonna change anybody’s way of driving in this town so just get with the program.

  3. #3 are you serious?, not a big deal, thats exactly the attitude why there are so many drivers in this town who think the laws do not apply to them !
going thru a stop sign is a BIG deal to many accidents where people get injured or worse killed because of people running stop signs and red lights ~ you get with the program ……….

  4. “Cool Masmid”

There he goes again; mouthing off like a fool.

Many drivers in this town are simply unfit to drive.

I have discovered that situations like this video are the result of the driver lacking the ability to make calculations, something that is critical to safe driving. He stopped at the stop sign and then looked. He saw this car approaching and though to himself “well, that guy is at least 100 feet away, i have plenty of time to cross his path over the intersection.” – If the driver had any calculating skills, he would know that the driver, if going 30-40mph, can travel that 100 feet in a matter of seconds.

Its the same reason why when we are driving down route 9 in howell at 50-55mph, and a car pulls out of a shopper center right in front of us at 5 mph. They did the same “math” in their shallow heads. “well that car is 150 feet away, so surely i can pull in front of him”. Well guess what, he is driving 50 mph, so he can travel that 150 in 2.7 seconds so there is a big chance he will slam into you.

So again, being a good driver is about being able to make this constant calculations. MANY drivers in this town lack those skills, for one reason or another.

  7. Is there some way we can get the Police Dept to install cameras on private cars all over town so that we can video all these abuses.

The one I find most common is the refusal of so many people to come to a complete stop at stop signs.

  8. On a similar note to all drivers, just a friendly reminder…

It is illegal to drive on the shoulder for any reason. That means if the car in front of you is waiting to turn left, you CANNOT drive around him on the shoulder. If caught, you will get a ticket and four points on your license. The shoulder is for pedestrians, cyclists, disables vehicles and emergency vehicles.

In the eye of the law, driving on the shoulder, is no different than driving on the sidewalk. It does not matter how long you have to wait for the car in front of you to turn left, DO NOT DRIVE ON THE SHOULDER!!

  9. SCOOP POST MY #7 FULL COMMENT!!!!! STOP CENSORING THINGS IN YOUR PEOPLES’ FAVOR!!

YOU WILL HAVE BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS IF THIS ISNT RESOLVED SOON!!!!

  10. Oh it’s no big deal to pull out in front of a car. Well let me tell you it is, I was hit by one of those people not stopping. When the police arrived the person said oh I thought I was on the Avenue. This happened on County Line road. Where do we have Avenues in Lakewood. Thank God I wasn’t hurt but my car was totaled. Have a fear of driving in Lakewood, am very leary of all traffic.

  11. We’ve had several fatal accidents in town in the last few weeks. Two were caused by illegal aliens who did not have a drivers license. Just today there was a fatal accident at the entrance to the GSP caused by a Lakewood resident who went thru a red light. She killed a woman and put another in the hospital. Going thru red lights and stop signs is serious stuff. Driving while on a phone or texting is distracting and serious stuff. Injuring or killing yourself, your passengers or others is serious stuff. Driving, in itself, is serious stuff.
