After Viewing Dashcam Video Showing Motorist Driving On Sidewalk, TLS Reader Asks the Mayor to Remove All of the Sidewalks From Lakewood Township
After viewing a dashcam video showing a motorist in Lakewood driving his car down a sidewalk, TLS reader, Ian Miffedowitz, posted a request Thursday on TLS’s ‘Ask the Mayor’ forum, asking the Mayor to remove all of the sidewalks from Lakewood Township.
“Removing all of the sidewalks from Lakewood Township accomplishes two things,” Mr. Miffedowitz explained to the Mayor, “it ensures that pedestrians will longer be forced to walk on the sidewalks, thereby protecting them from life-threatening traffic, and it also forces motorists – who wish to avoid street traffic – to use the front lawns, backyards or alleyways as alternative routes, instead of using the pedestrian-filled sidewalks.”
The Mayor issued a response to Mr. Miffedowitz saying as follows: “Driving on sidewalks has long been a serious issue in Lakewood, but removing all of the sidewalks from town would be extremely costly and would take forever!”
“A more simple solution,” the Mayor added, “would be to ban all cars and all forms of transportation from Lakewood. Just imagine how relaxing it would feel to be able to stroll down the streets of Lakewood without any cars or traffic in sight! I’ve forwarded both of our suggestions to Public Works. We’ll see what they say! Thanks.”
